Chapter 31
You'll be Magnificent
I was breathless.
Just last night, I had lain awake wondering about him and this morning, here he was, as if my thoughts had pulled him back into my world.
Dafa sat on the motorcycle. His uniform was perfectly pressed, the dark fabric sharpening the lines of his lean, solid frame. When he flipped up his visor, the first thing I saw were those eyes, steady, focused, the same eyes from the engagement party that had spoken of silent responsibility and unshakable self control.
"Alayna," he greeted me, his voice a low, grounding presence in my rising panic.
I couldn't speak for a moment. My mind was still caught between last night's wondering and this impossible, real time rescue. My heart fluttered like a bird startled into sudden flight.
He glanced at my bag, then at my anxious face.
"Where are you going?"
The question snapped me out of my trance.
