Chapter 10 - that’s a fight

Outside of glares and some whispers, the classroom quieted, and the studies began.

Violet would stay in this class for the first half of the day. There were different professors rotating with the different subjects. She'd have lunch and then two different classes, and after lunch, she had a free period and two other classes, but they would be in different rooms, unlike the first part of the day.

In her first class, she learned a lot about vampire history. Like, she had no idea that the reason vampires burn in the sun is because the direct sunlight dehydrates the skin, making it almost translucent, which magnifies their blood boiling it, and because their blood is thick like oil, it will eventually catch fire. Therefore roasting them. Purebloods could do extremely cloudy days for short durations, but they'd start to feel the heat after a few hours of clouded exposure. With the exception of magical items bringing protection from UV, but those were exceptionally rare. Only a few in existence.

The anatomy of a vampire was what I expected. Because she attended human school, only really interacted with vampires blood-related to me because of their natural resistance to my blood. So there was never really a need to teach her all the finer details of vampire anatomy. But now she should know. She'll be their queen. She learned the reason they need to drink blood isn't because they eat it like food; it acts as a transfusion of a kind. The blood gets old and clotty when no new blood enters their bloodstream, which then can cause pain and irritation, and they can become irrational with the thirst to satisfy the pain of their blood clogging.

Oliver said it feels like choking to death.

Makes sense.

After the first half of classes is done, Oliver walks with Violet to the cafeteria. Where they find Ash and Jeremy waiting for them at the entrance.

"You fucking bit her in school, Oliver? Are you stupid or something? What the fuck makes you think that's a good idea?" Ash screams at him in the hallway.

"I was only playing," Oliver replied nonchalantly, shrugging his shoulders.

Ash rips his arm from around Violet, yanking her by the arm away from Oliver and closer to him and Jeremy.

"Don't do it again, Oliver. Or Gabriel will be pissed," Jeremy said. "And now we have to worry about all the students here having a death wish and drinking from her."

"You really think they would think that her blood is worth the risk of their lives?" Oliver said, surprised.

"Are you dumb? She's not mated yet. If someone takes her and fucks her and gets her pregnant. We lose her. We can only make more purebloods with her. It has to be one of us that mates her." Jeremy said condescendingly.

"You know you're acting a lot like Gabriel right now, Jeremy. I get it. I just made it more interesting here, didn't I?" Oliver chuckled.

Jeremy just rolled his eyes and walked away, putting his hands in his pockets.

"If something happened to her, it's your fault, idiot," Ash warned, his tone had a rough growl.

Violet had just stood by quietly, clinging closely to Ash's back side, holding him by his shirt.

All of this had just been so terrifying for her. She closed her eyes and pulled herself together. She was surprisingly so hungry, even after all that had happened, she could eat a whole cow.

She let go of Ash and looked up at the two vampires arguing in front of her.

"Hey, guys, who's hungry? I know I am. I am so hungry. Let's go grab some food from the cafeteria," she said, staring at them sweetly with her innocent smile. She held her hands together in front of her uniform before she took both of the sleeves of their blazers and said, "Please, let's go" and pulled them through the lunchroom doors. The jerk forward surprised the brother; they weren't used to her acting like that. They just looked at each other and let her drag them into the cafeteria.

The entire lunchroom went quiet at the sight of her dragging in the pureblood princes by their blazers. Only stopping once realizing everyone was staring, she stiffened in response.

Sensing her anxiety, they both grip her hands and walk with her to the lunch line. Everyone was amazed by the intimacy the two of them were expressing with this tiny human. Still pretty anxious from all the unwanted eyes on her, at least being between the two of them makes her feel safer. Oliver may be one of her tormentors. But no one can hurt her when they're around.

Only they can hurt her. She shudders at the thought.

She was so anxious from the unwanted eyes that she hadn't noticed that both men were now touching either side of her with their cold bodies, sending shivers down her spine.

They all sit surrounding her like her own personal guards. They really did intend to keep her safe from the others in the cafeteria.

This news made the girls in the room envious. Not every vampire was aware that a maiden had finally returned to them, so the princes were currently unavailable for mating. This was disrupting their chances of raising their status and marrying a prince of night. The other girls in the room perceived her as their greatest threat and were determined to eliminate her.

There was one more week before the full moon, before they could even have a chance at getting her pregnant. Maidens will give birth to more purebloods and have an increased chance of birthing another maiden. The fact that one has resurfaced after all these years gives the few remaining purebloods hope. So much was riding on her that it was such an overbearing burden, to think their fate was riding on her and others who may be born like her.

And then the wolf clan enters the lunchroom.

"Well, boys, I thought vampires didn't mess around with lowly humans?" Teased the young alpha heir.

Ash and Oliver growl. Jeremy takes the lead on this one and stands up.

"What we do with whoever we do it with is our business and not for little puppy dogs like you, Amos."

Violet was amazed to see Jeremy show any emotion; he smirked, he actually smirked.

That comment pissed the young alpha, Amos, off. "What? I can't ask questions?" The young alpha heir wolf said, sneering. He was baiting the brothers.

"Of course you can, but you do remember what they said about the cat?" Jeremy said, his smirk getting bigger.

"Oh, and enlighten us, what do they say about the cat, Jeremy?" The wolf asked, chuckling, thinking he was so smart. Amos was arrogant.

"That curiosity killed it, Amos." Jeremy now full-on grinned.

It was honestly the scariest grin Violet's ever seen.

"Did you just fucking threaten me?" Amos said, his voice sounding harsh, his growl deep.

"It's just a story, Amos. Why are you so upset?" Jeremy now baiting him.

"I'm not, I'm just amazed how vampires could stoop so low as to fuck human whores."

Amos's words made Violet wince. It hurt her fragile heart to be called such mean names. Until recently, no one had ever treated her like this. She's never done a thing to anyone here; why do they keep wanting to hurt her? She just couldn't understand what their reason for hating her so much was.

Oh shit, now he's done it. He shouldn't have insulted Violet.

Ash stands up and flips the table, dropping all their lunch on the floor. Violet, terrified and now saddened by her food falling to the floor.

"I'll fuck you up if you call her a whore again, mangy mutt," Ash raged in his eyes.

Oliver, now upset about wearing some of his lunch, stands up. "Not only do you insult my pet, but you got my jacket dirty. I just can't let those things go so easily."

"What are you going to do about it, pretty boy?" Amos and his group start to laugh. They didn't expect the vampires to actually react.

"Since you asked," Oliver blinked and found himself nose to nose with the young alpha. Amos stumbled back a step and attempted to swing, but Oliver ducked, and Amos's face met Ash's right hook, causing him to bite his lip. Amos wiped blood from his mouth and smiled at his wolves and at us. Then, the wolves attacked. They extended their claws, snarling, while the vampires extended their fangs and nails. Both of them, coming as a more dangerous and deadly predator. The students around them moved their tables and seats away, creating space for them. And Jeremy simply stood there next to her, ready to protect her from any harm. When he thought of her in danger, it ignited this primal urge to destroy anything that threatened her safety. She belonged to him. To us.

She was theirs.

The fight only happens for a few moments before the other vampires stand up and walk closer. Tired of the wolves' presence in their lunchroom, the wolves sense the stir in the room. Punching Oliver once before pushing them away and leaving.

"This isn't finished, pretty boys," Amos said as he walked out.
