Chapter 1 - Horrid Dreams

...blood...the smell of blood.. the sound of bullets as they swooshed past her. She couldn't escape. Before her eyes countless bodies lay, lifeless...breathless...the last thing she heard was the shout of a man telling to her to watch out before....

"Aaaaaahhh", Elsa let out a painful cry, immediately waking up from her nightmare. Her chest heaved up and down at an uncontrolled rate, resistant to any attempts at appeasal.

Downstairs, a man sat before a computer, processing the countless data that it bore. His eyes were rid of emotions, just as his perfectly sculpted face rid of expression. He was about to take a call when a piercing cry came from upstairs. As fast as the eyes could see, he dashed towards the room and upon entrance noticed the curled up ball on the bed. He stood at the door for a while, signed and made his way towards the bed. Meanwhile, Elsa, who was still still shaken from the earlier visions, kept her head between her feet, tears running down her face. All of a sudden, she felt a hand reach out and wipe the tears dry and looking up, saw the one person who could make all her fears dissipate, her husband, Nick.

Getting into a more comfortble position, she leaned her head on Nick's broad shoulders. They spent the next minutes in absolute silence, only feeling the warmth each provided to the other.

"You're not going to ask me what's wrong?", Elsa broke the silence, staring at Nick, who still remained the same.

"Only when you are ready, love", he replied, his eyes looking right into her soul. Elsa blushed ripe scarlet before avoiding Nick's scorching gaze. Taking in a deep breath, Elsa asked him again, "Nick, can you tell me about me one more time please?", she asked.

Silence.

She knew she had touched his sore spot. She had asked him this same question many times, and although the atmosphere turned heavy and somber each time, Nick never failed in telling her into detail about herself.

"We met in high school. You were a freshmen and had potential for greatness, so you received special training from the teachers, making you a bit more isolated than others. You have no family, and was raised by a special organization. In your second year I asked you out and you said yes. I proposed to you after graduation and you said yes, again", a light hearted laugh came from Nick before he continued, "We were married for three years during which you took a job at the local bank and one day while driving home from work you.... your car got an accident and you lost all your memories", Nick's voice grew lower and lower. Elsa listened as she lay on his chest, hearing the perfectly pulsed rate of his heartbeat.

"Then where are all these strange visions coming from?",she asked him again, her brows furrowed. Nick frowned upon hearing her question. "Must be recurring scenes from some old blockbusters you used to watch, you were a sucker for those", he replied. Elsa, seemingly bought over by this vague explanation, nodded before closing her eyes and gently drifting off to sleep. Nick, after making sure that the girl beside him was long gone, gently pushed her to the other side of the bed before getting out of it and moving downstairs. There,he took out a cigarette stick from his drawer, lit it and took a puff. With his figure shrouded in smoke and a mysterious presence, he took out his phone and sent out three words to an unsaved contact.

"They're coming back". With this mission accomplished, he extinguished the flames from the cigar before hazily making his way upstairs to sleep beside his fair maiden.
