As the explosion finally cleared, the valley had been transformed into something unrecognizable.
Massive craters dotted the landscape where the combined Hyper Beams had struck. Smoke rose from the broken ground while pieces of rock continued falling from the sky.
Only scattered rubble remained. In the center of the largest crater, Regigigas lay on its back. Its enormous white greyish body was badly burned.
Dark scorch marks covered its chest and arms. Small chips and cracks had appeared across its ancient stone skin.
The Legendary giant breathed heavily. Its seven glowing eyes dimmed slightly as it struggled to recover from the overwhelming attack.
[We won!] Guy shouted with pure joy. The Machamp pumped all four of his muscular arms into the air. [Youth triumphs again! Take that, you oversized mountain! Four arms beat two every single time!]
He struck a proud pose, flexing his muscles while laughing loudly. The other Pokemon could not help but react.
Latias giggled softly in Gladion's mind. [Guy, it took more than four arms to take down that monster. You forget to our arms.]
Latios added calmly, [At least he is honest about his excitement.] Even Colossus let out a deep, rumbling chuckle that shook the ground slightly. The Alpha Tyranitar looked proud of the team's victory as with shining light its mega evolution ended.
Ultron floated beside Gladion. Its metallic voice echoed in everyone's minds. [It is not over yet.]
Metagross's red eyes glowed as it watched the fallen Legendary. Gladion turned toward it quickly. "What do you mean?"
Ultron did not reply with words. It simply continued staring at Regigigas. Gladion followed its gaze. The ancient giant was slowly pushing itself up from the crater.
Its movements were unsteady. Its legs wobbled as it tried to stand. The burns across its body looked painful. Small pieces of stone continued falling from its cracked skin. It could barely walk. Its enormous feet dragged across the broken ground.
Gladion watched carefully. "It cannot walk properly. There is nothing to worry about." He felt a wave of relief wash over him.
Regigigas was not planning on walking anyway. Its massive right hand suddenly glowed with bright white energy of a mega punch. The Legendary raised its arm high into the air.
Then it punched forward with tremendous force. It did not strike anything physical. It simply punched the empty air in front of it.
A powerful blast of compressed air and shockwave erupted from the fist. The invisible force rushed forward like a speeding train. It slammed directly into the psychic barriers protecting Gladion and his team.
The combined barrier, powered by a pseudo legendary and two legendary Pokemon, cracked visibly. Small lines spread across the blue shield. The impact shook everyone inside it.
Gladion steadied himself. "It is still fighting." Regigigas punched the air again. Another shockwave crashed against the barrier. The cracks grew larger. The Legendary kept firing those air blasts one after another. Each punch sent another powerful wave of force toward them. The barrier trembled under the repeated attacks, but it held strong for now.
Gladion decided it was time to talk to Regigigas now that it was injured. He tried to connect telepathically to Regigigas.
Latias's voice echoed in Gladion's mind with a teasing tone. [Should you not have done that before the fight began?]
Gladion smiled wryly. "I forgot since I wanted to fight a legendary Pokemon like that. You do not get such rush filled fights these days."
As Gladion finally managed to connect to Regigigas mind thanks to his immense psychic energy and talent in it. 'Regigigas, please listen to me. It was never our intention to wake you from your long sleep. We did not come here searching for a battle against you.'
'Our enemies led us to this place. They set a trap because they knew your strength was beyond anything they could command. They wanted us to destroy each other while they escaped without paying the price for their actions.'
He slowly spread his hands to show that he meant no harm and he asked his Pokemon to do the same.
Regigigas did not say anything. It simply stopped punching the air for a moment. Its glowing eyes studied Gladion carefully.
'If I had known that my actions would awaken you, I would have searched for another way. I respect your power and the countless years you have protected this land.'
Gladion looked directly into the Legendary's eyes. 'You fought because you believed an enemy had disturbed your resting place. Any guardian would have done the same. I cannot blame you for that.'
He took another step forward but stopped at a respectful distance as he lowered the psychic barriers around him.
'The people responsible have already fled. They used both of us as pieces in their plan. There is no reason for either of us to continue fighting.'
His expression remained calm. 'Your home has already suffered enough damage because of this battle. Every punch we exchange now only destroys more of the land you have protected for so long.'
Gladion placed a hand over his chest. 'I give you my word as one of the strongest trainers on the continent. I have no desire to conquer you, capture you, or force you to fight for me. I only wish to end this battle.'
He glanced briefly at his exhausted Pokémon before looking back at Regigigas.
'Please return to your rest. Heal your wounds. Let this battle end here. We will leave this place immediately and make sure no one disturbs your sleep again.'
The Legendary seemed to be considering his words. Then, without warning, it turned toward the large hole it had emerged from earlier.
With surprising speed for its injured state, Regigigas jumped back into the opening. The ground shook one final time as the giant disappeared beneath the mountain.
Dust rose from the hole as rocks fell in to cover the entrance once more.
Gladion stared at the spot where Regigigas had vanished. "Well, he did not even say goodbye." He shook his head with a small laugh. The sudden departure left everyone feeling surprised and slightly amused after such an intense battle.
