Upon hearing Amelia Linton's impulsive question, Fabian Holmes and Theodore Holmes's expressions both darkened simultaneously, but quickly returned to normal. However, Theodore's eyes concealed a trace of resentment.
"Yes! I'm out, Mom! I've missed you so much these past two years, did you miss me?" When Theodore looked up at Amelia, the resentment in his eyes had disappeared, replaced by a warm, sunny smile.
Such a warm, sunny smile would make anyone feel cozy.
Amelia Linton was no exception; she was warmed by Theodore's smile and momentarily forgot past unpleasantness. She smiled at him as he walked in, "I did miss you."
She truly did miss him; he was her son whom she raised herself, how could she not miss him?
Theodore did not expect Amelia to say that, was somewhat surprised. He could tell that she wasn't lying to placate him, as he knew she would disdain lying to make him happy.
