"All right, since everything's settled, I can get back to training. Might as well stop by the Pokémon Sumo Tournament on the way."
Kiyo said this while returning Machamp to its Poké Ball.
Silas was familiar with the Pokémon Sumo Tournament he mentioned. It was a competition where the use of moves was forbidden, Pokémon could only engage in hand-to-hand physical combat.
It was said that this format better showcased the interaction and cooperation between Trainers and their Pokémon.
However, Silas was unlikely to participate in such a competition. Most of his Pokémon did not meet the minimum registration requirement of 80 kilograms.
The only one who qualified was Gigalith.
…Forget it. It didn't even have hands—though it did have four legs.
Of course, Kiyo wouldn't use his ace Pokémon for this kind of event either. Trainers usually selected Pokémon from their second or even third teams.
After all, not everyone entered competitions solely to win or claim prizes. Many treated them as a source of enjoyment and as shared goals to strive toward with their Pokémon.
There were many similar events, for example, the Attribute Pokémon Championships popular across various cities and regions.
Simply put, these tournaments restricted participation to Pokémon of a designated type. Pokémon of other types were not allowed to enter.
The rewards varied greatly depending on the location, organizer, and scale of the event.
Lesser prizes might consist of a quantity of Pokémon food. Better ones might include held items. The most prestigious rewards were similar to the Bug-Catching Contest, where Evolution Stones were awarded to the winner.
Generally, these tournaments used a knockout format. Whether the matches were single battles, double battles, or multi-Pokémon formats depended entirely on the organizers.
As usual, these kinds of events were almost irrelevant to Silas.
When he caught Pokémon, he never focused on a single type. The most overlap he had was Flying-types, Pidgeot and Togekiss.
One-on-one might work. Anything more than that? Impossible.
After thinking for a moment, Silas said, "I'll probably head to New Jade Pool. Pidgeot just broke through and needs an examination there. The others haven't slacked off this month either, so it's a good chance for them to recuperate."
"New Jade Pool? That's indeed a good place," Kiyo nodded. "But that's not on the way. And Morty's been looking forward to you visiting."
"Then I'll have to trouble Gym Leader Morty to wait a bit longer," Silas replied casually with a smile.
Kiyo reminded him, "Once you go, they'll probably treat you like some kind of sacred guest. Those ascetics are pretty intense with their faith. Try not to get overwhelmed."
"I know, don't worry. Gym Leader Morty isn't unreasonable," Silas answered, accepting the goodwill.
In the Pokémon world, so-called ascetics were essentially religious groups devoted to Legendary Pokémon.
However, in this extraordinary world, quite a number of them genuinely possessed unusual abilities.
For example, Morty the Ecruteak City Gym Leader Kiyo mentioned.
As a devotee of Ho-Oh, he possessed a special ability called "Second Sight," said to allow him to see things ordinary people could not. Combined with his identity as a Ghost-type Trainer, that sounded rather unsettling.
Many rumors claimed he could see the spirits of the dead, though Morty personally denied this. Probably because he didn't want his Gym to be completely deserted within a ten-mile radius.
In short, when ascetics encountered anything related to the Legendary Pokémon they worshiped—be it a person, Pokémon, or object, it was difficult for them to restrain their emotions.
Due to historical reasons, many residents of Ecruteak City were devotees of Ho-Oh, likely out of guilt and self-blame.
Although Silas did not believe their actions had caused Ho-Oh's long absence from humanity, they believed so themselves.
Sometimes, imagination has no limits. Ho-Oh might not even have spared them a glance.
It was, admittedly, a rather tragic story.
Unlike Kiyo, who had arrived empty-handed and left empty-handed, Silas tidied up the two temporary residences he had used over the past month after saying goodbye.
"Serperior, use Leaf Storm to clear away that trash. Gigalith, fill in that hole, don't let anyone fall into it."
See? Having Pokémon was convenient. No need to lift a finger.
After checking the map and confirming the direction, Silas headed northwest at a fork in the road.
New Jade Pool
New Jade Pool had only gained prominence in recent years. It was a Pokémon rehabilitation sanctuary and currently home to what was widely recognized as the most therapeutically effective Pokémon Center in Johto.
Many believed that with the continued development efforts of the Joy family, it would soon become one of the finest Pokémon Centers in the world.
About forty years ago, New Jade Pool had been nothing more than a filthy dumping ground—no, worse than that.
Even Grimer colonies, which fed on garbage, could not survive there.
This situation changed when a Nurse Joy arrived. She even wrote a book titled "Spring Without Pokémon" to tell her story.
But that was not the end.
Later, her daughter, now the chief administrator of the New Jade Pool Pokémon Center, continued her mother's mission.
Let's call her Second-Generation Joy.
She inherited First-Generation Joy's determination and remained devoted to restoring the environment.
As Grimer began to inhabit the area, she wrote another book titled "The Summer When Muk Sang" to document her achievements.
Moreover, over the next decade, she persisted in her work. The restored waters of New Jade Pool eventually gained the ability to help Pokémon recover.
An incredible development.
With the lake's remarkable restorative properties, the area gradually transformed into what it was today.
Its signature features became unique rehabilitation therapy and battle-based recovery training.
In addition, the New Jade Pool Pokémon Center was equipped with one of the Joy family's most comprehensive health examination systems, capable of offering tailored recovery advice for Pokémon of every type.
Naturally, due to its proximity to the lake, it had the most extensive expertise in examining Water-type Pokémon.
Many research findings on Water-type Pokémon originated from the New Jade Pool Pokémon Center.
As for how Silas knew so much, he had to thank Nurse Joy Caicai, a former temporary teammate from the Sevii Islands.
Although everyone was usually busy, they often discussed places and knowledge in their smartwatch group chat.
That was how Silas first learned about New Jade Pool.
Such unique places often carried confidentiality restrictions, so it was normal that he hadn't known before.
Joy Caicai had even thoughtfully arranged service access for each temporary teammate.
After all, a small lake couldn't accommodate unlimited visitors. There were inevitably status requirements.
Fortunately, that wasn't a problem for their group.
"Oh right, I haven't told them that Pidgeot broke through to the Elite tier yet."
With a mischievous grin, Silas typed into the group chat:
"Ahem. Please take note, when addressing me from now on, kindly include the prefix: 'Respected Elite-level Trainer.'"
— I Am Your King
Having nicknames in a group chat was perfectly normal, Silas felt.
Another message quickly followed:
"Wait, wait… surely there isn't anyone in this group who doesn't have a Elite-level Pokémon yet?"
—I Really Don't Want to Inherit the World's No.1 Company
No need to guess, that was Hiroshi Silph.
One of the older members of the group, backed by Silph Co.'s resources, Hiroshi's strength was formidable.
The Pokémon he brought on their earlier mission had only been his second team.
Although his Trainer talent might not quite compare to Steven's.
But that was Steven.
Being comparable at all already proved how exceptional he was.
Similarly, older members like Bruno Munehiro all had one, two, or even three or four Elite-level Pokémon as their main forces.
Silas later realized that, aside from himself and perhaps a couple of others, everyone else had been pretending to be weaker than they truly were. And he had been the only one unaware of the act.
Someone tagged.
"@The End of Evil, Isn't there one right here?"
With a wicked grin, Silas pulled up Yozo's contact note and spammed it mercilessly.
Served him right for bragging about finding a cute girl in Kanto to travel with during their second year. Look at that, his strength progression had slowed down, hadn't it?
Sure enough, women were nothing but obstacles on the path to becoming stronger.
Far away in Kanto, Yozo almost coughed up blood. Who knew how Silas had managed to improve so insanely fast?
He wisely chose to pretend he hadn't seen the message.
If he replied, he'd definitely be roasted to death.
After the lively exchange, the group chat quickly quieted down. No one wanted to respond and risk becoming Silas's next target.
Still, the news that Silas's Pidgeot had broken through to the Elite tier spread quickly.
Different people had different thoughts upon hearing it.
After crossing valleys and vast stretches of desert in succession, Silas finally arrived at the forest where Jade Pool was located.
The air here was noticeably fresher.
As usual, he presented his Pokédex to Officer Jenny at the entrance. With his access permit, he was soon allowed inside.
All kinds of Pokémon could be seen everywhere lying on the grass, floating on the water, clinging to trees. There was an astonishing variety, and most of them were quite strong.
"Splash—"
Walking by the lakeside, Silas wasn't paying attention to the movement in the water and was suddenly sprayed in the face.
"Oh my, I'm so sorry! The Kingdra are doing rehabilitation battles and didn't notice you. I truly apologize."
A Nurse Joy hurried over with her Chansey.
"It's fine, it's fine. My fault," Silas replied, blinking as he looked at the two Kingdra not far away.
Seeing Water/Dragon-type Pokémon so casually was quite surprising.
Kingdra, which evolves from Seadra when traded while holding a Dragon Scale, is undeniably a rare Pokémon.
Despite traveling for so long, this was Silas's first time seeing one in person.
After instructing Chansey briefly, Nurse Joy came over.
"Are you here to have your partners checked? Or do they need recovery treatment?"
"Hello, Nurse Joy. I'm Silas Alaric from Viridian City in Kanto. I just finished special training, so I came to have my Pokémon examined."
Silas politely explained his purpose.
"Silas Alaric… yes, I remember. I think Ayaka mentioned you before. Come with me."
Nurse Joy tilted her head thoughtfully before recalling the information.
As he followed her toward a Pokémon Center–style building nearby, Silas looked around curiously.
"Nurse Joy, are you the only Joy here?"
In this modest forest and lake area, aside from various Pokémon and Chansey, she seemed to be the only human present — most likely a second-generation Joy.
Walking ahead, Nurse Joy smiled and nodded.
"Yes."
Silas immediately felt deep respect.
Handling so much work alone was no small task.
"But my daughter will soon graduate from the family academy. Once she arrives, I'll have it much easier."
The second-generation Joy spoke happily.
Inside the Pokémon Center, she said:
"Alright, please release your Pokémon."
Silas nodded. "Come out, everyone."
Red light flashed, and nine figures of varying sizes appeared, automatically lining up in order of when they joined his team.
Nurse Joy paused briefly, then smiled.
"You must care deeply for them. Do you always keep them by your side?"
Silas scratched his head shyly.
"Yes. There wasn't really anywhere else for them to stay, so I applied to the League."
"That must take dedication," she said.
"Let's start with Pidgeot. It looks like it just broke through recently."
Silas wasn't surprised she could tell.
"Yes, it just advanced to the Elite tier before I came. That's why I ended special training."
Nurse Joy soon brought Pidgeot into a spherical device.
About ten minutes later, Pidgeot emerged.
Feeling the sense of relief transmitted from Pidgeot, Silas grew curious.
"It's simply a combined massage and diagnostic system. Your Pidgeot is extremely healthy. However, there's a minor issue in the bone structure of the right wing, likely an old hidden injury.
Also, its chest musculature related to the Keen Eye Ability could still be strengthened.
Even among Elite–level Pokémon I've seen, this newly advanced one is exceptional."
Silas raised an eyebrow. An old injury?
Looking at the data, Nurse Joy explained:
"It appears to be damage from a sharp object. Judging by the pattern, likely Beedrill's twin stingers, probably from when it was still a Pidgeotto. It's very subtle and doesn't affect force output, so normal instruments wouldn't detect it."
Silas nodded thoughtfully.
That made sense. During his pre-journey year, he had faced countless dangers. Battles between Pidgeotto and Beedrill were common. He simply hadn't expected that even Zero's scans had missed it.
"Good job," Silas said, patting Pidgeot's head.
"Pidge—"
Pidgeot rubbed against him, unaware it had ever been injured.
"For recovery, mix Marowak bone powder with crushed Staryu fragments and apply it for about three days."
Silas mentally noted it.
These materials weren't hard to obtain.
It was worth noting: bone powder, not skull fragments.
Marowak's skull is said to be the cracked skull of its deceased mother, not something to joke about.
Next was Blaziken.
It entered a machine similar to a CT scanner Silas had seen in a hospital in his previous life.
Then flames ignited around it.
If he hadn't trusted Nurse Joy, he might have thought this was cremation.
Soon, the analysis was complete.
"Perfect. No hidden injuries. 99% developmental completion. 2.86 times stronger than the average of its species."
Nurse Joy stared at the report, nearly suspecting equipment malfunction.
"Are you a robot?" she asked Silas.
"I've never seen a Trainer maintain their Pokémon in this condition."
Training, battling, diet trainers are not Pokémon themselves, so issues inevitably arise.
Yet Silas had reduced them to zero.
Silas touched his nose.
"Perhaps a gift of nature?"
Joy gave him a long look.
"Perhaps. But this one is flawless."
Gigalith followed.
Its rocky body was just as impressive as Blaziken's.
"The only minor issue is joint dryness from overuse of Sandstorm. Occasionally give it incense-based moisture treatments."
Joy felt numb at this point.
For Rock-types, dryness hardly even mattered.
When she moved to check Serperior, Silas stopped her.
"Please check Ampharos and Vulpix first. I hatched them from Eggs."
Joy understood, five of them were raised from Eggs?
Though shocked, she continued professionally.
Both were in excellent condition.
"Has your Ampharos been training some unusual technique variation?"
Silas explained his compressed electric current charging method.
"It causes manageable strain. Just schedule periodic discharge therapy."
"That's the same machine from earlier?"
"Yes. Normally used to recharge Electric-types. Yours is reversed."
Now came the more problematic ones.
"Serperior's internal energy is slightly mixed. Avoid overusing Natural Gift before Elite-level breakthrough. I'll give you a medicinal adjustment formula, one month of treatment should suffice.
Also, its tail leaves are slightly yellowing. More sunlight would help.
Togekiss has several hidden injuries likely from wild attacks back when it was a Togepi. Treatment methods are as follows…
Kirlia has residual Bug-type energy in a few areas from prior attacks. A soak in the hydrotherapy pool will fix it.
As for this Karrablast…"
Nurse Joy hesitated.
"It differs greatly from normal Karrablast. Yet it's surprisingly healthy and highly receptive to multiple attribute energies. This adaptability usually appears in Dragon-types. I can't determine whether that's good or bad."
"Karra~"
The small Karrablast bounced happily.
"This child was rescued from Team Plasma's laboratory. Surviving alone was already lucky."
Silas gently stroked its horn.
"An experiment, I see," Joy sighed.
"At least for now, it seems positive."
By the time all examinations were finished, the sky outside had grown dim.
"I'm very sorry for taking up your whole day, Nurse Joy."
Joy smiled.
"It's my duty. I'm happy to see such wonderful children. And Chansey Strega helped care for the others outside."
"Lucky~"
Strega pulled an egg from her pouch and handed it to Silas.
"Thank you."
He accepted without hesitation.
Chansey Eggs are highly nutritious supplements, usually given only to those they value.
"Then I'll trouble you for lodging tonight as well."
Silas smiled while enjoying the delicious egg.
