A faint crack was the only warning they got before a flash of steel whizzed through the air and decapitated Victor.
Or at least, his afterimage — he had used Lunar Dash in that instant to move out of the way. "Don't think I didn't sense you coming!" He grinned, holding on to the tank he'd landed on, upside down like a damn spider.
Nyx spun, standing next to Seraphina as if protecting her.
"Anything else?"
Seraphina shook her head. "No, that's it."
She disconnected her threads from the machine, glancing at the piece of steel that had missed Victor and was now sticking out of the wall in front of her.
It wasn't actually steel but a piece of solidified flesh, so hardened and glossy that it resembled steel under the terrible lighting.
Nyx didn't speak anymore as ice sprung up in spikes in front of her, shooting forward — not as an attack, but as obstructions for the several spikes launched at them again.
