The No-Blade Drak disappeared between the trees, leaving the group staring at the place where it had vanished. For several seconds, nobody said anything. Watching it turn and run was somehow more unsettling than watching it charge.
Caleb was the first to break the silence.
"Did that thing just run away?"
Nobody answered him.
Samuel kept his eyes fixed on the forest, hand close to his weapon, scanning the surroundings. After a few seconds he relaxed slightly.
"Everyone stay where you are."
Victor looked behind them again. Nothing unusual. Just trees, bushes, the narrow trail they'd been following since entering the Green Zone.
'What scared it?'
He couldn't think of many things capable of frightening a Drak badly enough to make it abandon a group of armed humans. The creature hadn't even been injured. It had simply looked past them and fled.
"Captain," one of the soldiers called. "Should we follow it?"
