Below him, soldiers filled the courtyard and the open ground beyond the gates. The banners of the four ducal houses rose among those of the lesser nobles, their cloth stirring above ranks of knights, riflemen, and mages.
The Tower Masters and their mages stood together beneath the banners of their respective Towers. A few among them wore the new Mage Armor, their gauntlets resting at their sides as they listened to the instructions of their seniors.
Nearby, knights carrying Sky Piercers kept the enormous rifles braced against their reinforced armor. Even among the other armored warriors, they drew plenty of attention.
