After a while, Ikem finally calmed down. He stood up and looked at Kahn.
"I'm ashamed," he said. "You had to see such a weak and pitiful display."
Kahn didn't like such scenes either, so he didn't dwell on it.
"It's alright," he said simply. "Let's get back to business."
Returning to the main topic, Ikem grew serious.
"So, you want Ursa to regain her memory to help you? Or do you just need the truth of that night?"
"If it's the latter, I can tell you now."
"You know?!" Ikem asked, surprised.
"Yes, I know. Ursa told me about it back then."
Ikem nodded thoughtfully, negotiating carefully.
"Can this information guarantee that my peaceful life with Ursa won't be disturbed?"
Kahn was surprised. Ikem's question showed just how much Ursa trusted him. Kahn paused before replying.
"Hmm… If it were just me, I might agree," he said slowly, "but considering Zuko and Azula, I can only apologize."
"You and Ursa now have a child. You should understand how important a mother is to her child, and vice versa."
"Does Ursa truly have no feelings for Zuko and Azula… not even willing to remember them?"
Kahn's rhetorical question made Ikem fall silent. He knew better than anyone that Ursa's love for her children was undeniable.
Before accepting Face Mother's help, the thought of forgetting Zuko and Azula had haunted her the most. She had never wanted to forget them.
But at the last moment, Ikem had persuaded her, barely. And if it were to happen again, he couldn't be certain of the outcome.
He sighed and accepted Kahn's words.
"Alright," Ikem said, "I'll tell Ursa the truth and let her choose. But if she decides to regain her memory and identity, what about her safety?"
Hearing this, Kahn understood Ikem's concern and relaxed slightly.
"Don't worry. We won't let her be harmed in the slightest. Our side has the famous Firebending Master Iroh, and Azula and I also have some strength…"
"This promise is enough. You don't need to explain further. I'm just an ordinary person; I don't understand these things," Ikem waved off the explanation.
But he had reached another realization.
"Even if I can't protect Ursa, if there's danger, I must die before her."
"I will definitely ensure her safety," Kahn replied, simply, firmly. Words alone were insufficient; action would prove it.
Everything was finally settled. Ikem would return to Ursa and explain everything, letting her make her own decision.
If she refused, Kahn would respect that. Zuko and Azula might need to intervene if necessary.
Even if Ursa chose to regain her memories, they would have to wait until the next season to seek Face Mother's help again.
In the meantime, they had ample time to prepare mentally.
Ikem no longer concealed anything. Following the conversation's natural flow, he revealed the truth of that night, as Ursa had told him.
Back then, the Old Emperor had wanted to punish Ozai by ordering Zuko's execution, intending for him to feel the pain of losing a child.
Although Ozai had been indignant, he didn't seem to resist the Old Emperor's orders.
Azula overheard the conversation and relayed it to Ursa. Panicked, Ursa hurried to Ozai, begging him not to harm Zuko.
In exchange, she offered Ozai a bottle of colorless, odorless, fatal poison she had made herself, and promised she would leave the palace, never to appear in the world again.
Later, on her way out, she learned of Ozai's sudden ascension to the throne. She realized that Ozai had used her poison to kill the Old Emperor and forged his will.
Kahn listened, stunned. Ursa — a seemingly ordinary woman — could craft deadly poison of such skill?
Ikem explained further. Ursa was no ordinary country girl; she was the granddaughter of Avatar Roku.
When Avatar Roku grew old, he resided at the Fire Nation Avatar Temple, which served the Avatar.
One day, a volcano erupted. Roku stayed behind, sacrificing himself to help the people escape the lava.
Afterwards, the Fire Nation declared war on the world. Roku's widow took her daughter to Hira Town to live in anonymity, where Ursa was eventually born.
Later, a Fire Sage prophesied that the union of Azulon's son and the Avatar's descendant would produce a powerful offspring — one who could fulfill the long-cherished dream of uniting the world.
Thus, Azulon forced his second son to marry Ursa, setting the stage for the tragedies that followed.
Finally, the full cause-and-effect of the story became clear.
Kahn couldn't help but sigh at the Old Emperor Azulon's absurdity.
A vague prophecy and Azulon's bizarre decision to condemn Zuko — truly, brain-dead logic. Thankfully, Iroh had not inherited these flaws.
Most importantly, they finally understood the truth of that night: Ozai had killed the Old Emperor using Ursa's poison, which explained the absence of wounds on the body. The mystery they had speculated about was finally solved, and the plan was now moving toward its final stage.
Next, Kahn could inform Iroh and Zuko, and Azula could fully bring Mei and Ty Lee into the fold.
They would prepare their forces for a counterattack, with the plan to overthrow Ozai firmly on the agenda.
It was going to be a busy time. But this time, Kahn was full of motivation.
The plan had reached its final stage, and as long as Ozai's rule ended, an unprecedentedly beautiful life awaited him.
Ikem was ready to return and explain everything to Ursa, while Kahn had no intention of lingering, avoiding an awkward situation.
However, before taking the next step, Kahn faced a very difficult problem that gave him a huge headache:
How should he tell Azula about all this?
