Chapter 101 - Chapter 100: The One Who Tied the Bell Must Untie It, Progress

Explaining the situation to Azula was indeed a headache.

The main problem wasn't Ursa's romance with Ikem, nor their child Kiyi, but rather Ursa's choice to erase all her past memories.

Although Ikem had explained Ursa's initial dilemma and her concern for Azula and Zuko, she ultimately chose to abandon everything from the past. Kahn could understand her actions.

Being forced to marry a stranger she disliked, cut off from her family, suppressing her longing for loved ones, and enduring a cruel husband every day—no wonder she wanted to escape her past.

That husband was a ruthless psychopath; just thinking about it felt suffocating and painful.

Still, for Azula and Zuko, Ursa's actions amounted to abandonment.

The pain of being actively forgotten by their own mother was imaginable. Zuko might understand, but Azula…

Azula had been deeply influenced by Ozai in her childhood. Ursa had tried to correct her behavior, often strictly, which left Azula with a lingering prejudice.

Even now, though free from Ozai's control, some of those deep-rooted influences remained. Coupled with her stubborn personality, Kahn worried she might spiral again.

On the way from Hira Town back to the Imperial Capital, Kahn hadn't found any particularly good solution, so he decided to rest today, putting it off until tomorrow.

However—

As soon as Kahn returned home, before he could enter, a nimble figure leapt over the wall into the courtyard with practiced ease.

Who else could it be but Azula?

Seeing Kahn, she raised an eyebrow slightly, a hint of surprise in her expression.

"You're back? Quite fast, aren't you? So, how's the situation?"

Kahn wanted to complain, but upon hearing her question, he stiffened and stammered.

"Well… all in all, it went very smoothly."

Hearing this, Azula immediately moved closer, pressing eagerly.

"You found Mother's whereabouts?!"

"Yes, she's in Hira Town. It's just…"

Despite her excitement, Azula immediately detected Kahn's hesitation and uncertainty.

She frowned, "Just what? Did something happen to her? Why are you hesitating?"

"No, it's just… well, something did happen."

Kahn deliberated, unable to find a subtle way to explain, and finally gave up.

He recounted everything exactly as it happened, emphasizing Ursa's hesitation, though it seemed to have little effect.

After hearing the full story, Azula's expression darkened.

"Forgetting the past… Does she hate me that much? Or is my existence simply unimportant?"

Kahn froze. His mind raced, until a sudden idea struck him. He coughed heavily, drawing Azula's attention, and said seriously:

"Actually, I think she just hated Ozai too much. She didn't mean to target you two. After all, Zuko, whom she always loved, was also forgotten, wasn't he?

"Instead of making wild guesses, it would be better to confront her directly after she regains her memories, and ask her intentions face-to-face."

Azula's emotions eased a little, though the gloom on her face lingered.

"What if she really hates me?"

Kahn sensed the underlying insecurity and instinctively said.

"Don't worry. I'm still here."

Azula paused at his words, calming slightly, and then turned away.

"Then so be it."

With that, she left the courtyard.

Kahn sighed. He understood that this matter wouldn't be easily resolved.

The one who tied the bell must untie it; to completely resolve Azula's knot, Ursa herself had to intervene.

He rested at home for a day. Azula did not come to him, nor did he go to her, giving her space to think.

In the evening, Kahn arrived in the Spirit World at the appointed time to meet Iroh. Now, he could finally tell him the whole truth.

There was no need to worry about Iroh's reaction. Upon seeing him, Kahn went straight to the point:

"Uncle Iroh, I have something to tell you: I found the whereabouts of Azula and Zuko's mother, Ursa."

"What?" Iroh was momentarily stunned, then quickly pieced it together.

"Could it be that what you all have been doing all this time was this?"

"Yes." Kahn nodded, confirming Iroh's conjecture. Then he dropped a real bombshell.

"More importantly, while finding Ursa, we also finally uncovered the truth of Ozai's usurpation that night."

"What?!" Iroh could no longer maintain a calm expression. His eyes widened, and his beard bristled comically.

Kahn recounted the entire night's events.

Iroh's expression shifted repeatedly, from shock and disbelief to complex, unreadable emotion.

Memories resurfaced: his astonishment when learning his Imperial Father had abdicated, advice from confidants, struggles, Ozai's actions against him, and his own fallen state.

Finally, he let out a deep sigh:

"So… such a thing happened. The truth was like this…"

Although the reality exceeded his expectations and stirred countless emotions, the past was immutable.

Iroh had already endured too much to be shaken now.

After reflecting, Iroh returned to the present.

"You have never disappointed me. And from now on, your growth has far exceeded my expectations. I am proud of you, Kahn."

He understood the risks and effort required for such an investigation—something no ordinary person could have accomplished.

From this moment, Iroh saw Kahn as an equal. Kahn was no longer a child to care for; he had truly grown.

Meanwhile, knowing the truth of Ozai's usurpation stirred other thoughts in Iroh.

He believed Kahn, already dissatisfied with Ozai, would be even more motivated. Perhaps this was the real reason Kahn came today.

Iroh smiled.

"Although I previously chose not to interfere with your actions, it seems I've missed too much. I wonder if I can participate in your plans next?"

Kahn smiled in response.

"Of course!"
