Kahn's ultimate goal was, of course, to overthrow Ozai's rule.
Although Iroh had been mentally prepared for this possibility, hearing Kahn state the plan outright still shocked him.
Such a bold ambition was something most people wouldn't even dare imagine.
Yet Kahn not only dared to think it — he had already pushed the plan forward in secret, to the point where it was nearly halfway complete.
Iroh agreed with Kahn's proposed decapitation strategy, acknowledging that it was indeed suitable for Kahn and Azula to carry out.
"However," Kahn continued, "taking out Ozai is only the first step. After dealing with him, we must first secure the Imperial Palace, and then take control of the entire Imperial Capital. For that part, Azula and I might need some help."
Most of the Royal Guards loyal to the palace had already pledged themselves to Azula.
Among the remaining guards, many were loyal only to the Fire Lord's authority — not to Ozai personally. Those were the neutral faction.
There was no need to pay much attention to them. Once Ozai fell, they would naturally adjust their stance.
To seize the palace, they only needed to deal with Ozai's die-hard loyalists — and Kahn was confident he could handle them.
But to rapidly control the entire Imperial Capital, their manpower was simply too small.
Iroh didn't hesitate and took on this responsibility.
"Since it has come to this," he said.
"Zuko and I no longer need to continue the mission of finding the Avatar. Next, we will look for an opportunity to escape, then find a way back into the Imperial Capital and rendezvous with you."
"As long as the palace is secure, you can leave the rest of the capital to me."
Hearing this, Kahn felt much more at ease.
Azula had talent, intelligence, and monstrous skill, but her foundation was still shallow.
With a stabilizing figure like Iroh joining them, everything instantly felt far more reliable.
Kahn smiled and said.
"Come back soon. When it's over, we can all have a proper reunion. I wonder how tall Zuko has grown now."
"And I hope Azula and Zuko can go together to pick up Ursa. She'll feel better with both of them there."
"Don't get careless. Stay vigilant. After all this is over, we'll have all the time in the world."
Iroh echoed the warning, advising Kahn to prepare for failure as well, just to ensure nothing could go disastrously wrong.
But he agreed with the rest.
"Indeed. And I don't think Zuko would want to miss this opportunity."
After being exiled, Zuko had desperately wanted to search for Ursa.
Now that she had finally been found, there was no chance he would miss a reunion with his mother.
But Iroh couldn't return immediately. After escaping, he would need time to contact his old loyalists.
Whether open rebels or those still enduring quietly in the shadows, their strength was indispensable to this operation.
After discussing for a while, they decided Kahn would bring Zuko back first, while Iroh would handle gathering manpower and return to the Imperial Capital before the plan began.
This way, Zuko could reunite with Ursa, and Iroh — acting alone — would have greater freedom.
As for when to announce the truth of Ozai's usurpation, they decided that should only happen after Ozai was taken down.
The upcoming escape of Iroh and Zuko would already agitate Ozai. Revealing the truth now would only heighten his paranoia, potentially pushing him toward extreme actions or triggering a full-scale civil war — which would be disastrous.
In other words, everything hinged once again on Kahn and Azula. Taking down Ozai was the decisive prerequisite for everything that came after.
The entire plan would not proceed until Ursa fully recovered her memories — sometime next season.
The timeframe wasn't long, but the exact date would depend on circumstances.
After finalizing the plan, Kahn left the Spirit World and lay on his bed, unable to calm his mind.
Next up was a truly grand spectacle.
—
On the third day, Kahn finally saw Azula again.
Her expression was perfectly normal — no hint that the information he had shared previously affected her at all.
"You—"
He was about to ask how she felt, but Azula cut him off before he could finish.
"I don't want to think about that person right now. If you don't want to ruin my good mood today, then shut up."
Understood.
Kahn obediently closed his mouth.
It seemed wise not to mention Ursa again — at least until next season.
Still, Azula's behavior relieved him. At least she no longer seemed emotionally volatile about it.
So he sealed away all Ursa-related topics and instead relayed Iroh's update from the night before.
"Escaping? Heh. They're finally being decisive. I wonder what they were doing all this time."
Azula crossed her arms, clearly unimpressed, and mocked Iroh again.
Most people believed that when Ozai usurped the throne, Iroh had enough power to easily remove him.
The fact that things had fallen to their current state only worsened Azula's view of him. In that sense, even Ozai calling Iroh cowardly wasn't entirely baseless.
"But Zuzu is coming back too, huh? I hope he doesn't get in the way, or else I won't go easy on him."
When it came to Zuko's return, Azula was just as merciless.
"If it comes down to it, we can always offer him to Father. Maybe then the success rate of our plan will go up."
Kahn could tell she wasn't as dismissive of Zuko as she claimed, so he teased.
"No need for that. I think it'd be better to give Zuko to Mai in exchange for her cooperation."
"I have to say, that's actually a good idea!" Azula smirked, clearly amused by the thought.
"If Mai heard this, she'd probably jump around like Ty Lee."
"But now that you mention it, I should bring my girls into the team too."
Mai and Ty Lee were both valuable assets. If they joined, their families would be pulled in as well.
Especially Mai's father — who was currently trusted by Ozai — giving them even more leverage.
Azula's calculations were practically audible.
Suddenly she added.
"Oh, right — when are Iroh and the others making their move?"
"Probably very soon."
…Right. He had gotten carried away yesterday.
