Heather snorted and laughed.
"Well, I must confess, there weren't just words."
"What?" exclaimed Nomonda. "When?"
"We've been watching you" Qondile occurred.
"You did leave, remember?" Heather said smug.
"He works fast," Nomonda said shaking her head.
"How do you know it wasn't me?" Heather asked crossing her arms.
Now it was Nomonda's turn to stare with blank eyes.
Heather frowned back only to burst out laughing.
"I have to say this, those humans aren't exactly weak, he lifted me as if I were nothing."
"We all weigh nothing Night, we're endowed with the bone structure of baby birds. We probably weigh as much as a ten-year-old to him." Qondile said with a shrug.
"Well, this was a different kind of light, it was as if he was going to lift me forever and I was okay with being so close to the ground." she fluttered her wings but closed them quickly, shivering. She could barely look them in the eye.
"What's wrong." Qondile asked, looking at her face.
"The wing stings."
"From being with Matthias I'm certain."
"I detect jealousy Qondile. Shall I kiss you too to ease your suffering." Heather asked, stepping right over her.
Nomonda laughed and Qondile pulled a face.
"The battle you'd need to win to receive that honour is too difficult for you to even imagine, let alone win." Qondile replied before blowing a kiss with her fist. They laughed. "But… I think I have ointment. I'll use it back at the carriage"
"Yes, of course, I must apologise, I've led us off without telling a soul, we could have been taken. Maybe he is trouble. Trouble I can't get rid of, which reminds me, tell Noon and the others that I will cut the wings and throat out of anyone who harms him as I would kill anyone who would dare to harm them." She let the words hang there, wanting them to seep into their souls before carrying on. "Now, tell me, how far are you on my orders?"
"They're completed," Qondile said, "The carriage stopped at the point where we needed to get off."
"I've seen Novelty, it's a strange place. It's so tall, with many closely packed needles." Nomonda added.
"They're called buildings, old habits die hard don't they?" Qondile sighed.
