At that moment everyone was shocked, but no one was as shocked as Zane himself. For him, it felt as if the ground beneath his feet had disappeared instead of the mountain. His thoughts blanked completely. His eyes remained fixed upward at the empty sky where only moments ago a gigantic landmass large enough to erase everything below had been descending.
There was nothing there now. No fragments. No explosion. No shockwave. No signs of destruction. It was simply gone. His fingers unconsciously tightened around the handle of his greatsword while his mouth slowly opened. His lips moved but no words came out at first. It was not because his attack had failed.
He could accept defeat. He could accept overpowering force. But this? He could not understand what happened. His understanding simply could not connect one moment to the next. His eyes almost looked ready to come out of their sockets as his breathing became uneven.
