Chapter 7 - Chapter 7 - where now?

It was early in the morning when everyone was sleeping; not even the hotel staff would knock at this hour.

He saw his sister; she was sleeping in her bed.

"Who is it?" Remond said, grabbing his knife.

...

There was no answer.

Fearing that it was the Red Devil gang, he approached the door quietly and opened the door slowly; there was no one outside. Was he hearing things?

He quickly looked outside the room and didn't see even a single person.

He was puzzled about what the loud knock that woke him up was. Was it in the dream that he keeps seeing?

Thinking it was best to leave as soon as they could, he woke his sister up.

"Get dressed; we are leaving."

Sofie is rubbing her eyes. "Why so early? Can't I sleep for some more?"

"No, hurry, we are leaving now."

They hurried and left the hotel, and just as they approached the hotel front door, they walked right past Seth and his subordinates.

They missed each other by a second or two. If Seth had arrived earlier, he would have recognized Sofie and would have caught them there.

The country they were trying to get to was Tascel. A small nation located far north, where most humans didn't go because of the cold weather in the country. It was a safe place for them to hide and wait for this problem to pass.

As the Red Devil Gang controlled their country almost fully, they had a hand in every sector of the field and had the influence to make or remold the decisions of the government.

...

When Remond and his sister reached the airport, the sun had already risen, and it was already morning.

They boarded the first flight to the country and left the country.

On the other hand, Seth was still looking for them.

When Seth reached the hotel, he threatened the receptionist and got the information about Remond in the hotel ledger. He knew which room they had stayed in through the tracker.

Earlier, when he went to see the location of the tracker, he saw the big man lying flat on the ground with a slit throat and a piece of shoulder that was not the man's. That is when he knew that the person in the mansion, building, and here was the same, as the pattern of the slashes matched.

Which brought him to the hotel, and now he had the name of this person, "Remond."

He inspected the room Remond was staying in; there were some drops of blood on the floor. The room was filled with the stench of blood, but there was a faint smell of medicine on the bed, which made Seth realize that Sofie might be healing with some kind of miracle drug.

He couldn't find anything that might help him guess where they might have left, but still Seth ordered his men to block everything—roads, cruises, airports, every damn thing—from that moment.

But Remond and Sofie were already on a plane flying to Tascel.

...

After a few hours of flight, they had reached Tascel.

Tascel was a small nation located far in the north, where most of its land was covered in snow. And most people living there were poor, as there was not much to do in this country. But even so, it was a safe place for them to stay.

From there, they went to a town Remond had heard about in the northern part of the country, where most people immigrated to; that was the only way for Remond and his sister Sofie to hide from the Red Devil Gang and be part of the town without any problems.

But when they reached there, they saw that the town was pretty deserted, even though most houses looked like people lived in them.

The town was at the base of a mountain, which was once the driving factor for the people to relocate. As there was a big vein of gold that made the town full of ambitious people who were there for the gold. There was a large vein of gold in the mountain that had been getting extracted for almost 10 years now.

When Remond entered a place that looked like a shelter, he saw that the whole place was empty, with only some people holding firearms by the front desks. He grew suspicious of the place and told Sofie to stay in the sitting place.

He approached the desk with caution; when he got near them, he saw some tattoos on the forearms of the people, like they were affiliated with a group or a gang.

When he reached the desk to ask for info, a man in the group spoke.

"Didn't see you before; are you new here?"

"Yes, I am," Remond answered in an unserious manner.

"Why are you here? Don't you know that the vein has dried out here? Everyone is leaving; you should leave too," the man said in a threatening tone.

"Is that so?" Remond didn't care if the vein had dried or was full of gold; he just wanted to have a safe place to live his life with his sister.

The man trying to intimidate Remond took a step forward and signaled him to the door. Remond, seeing that, thought, "Whoa, you don't want me to leave now, do you?" He then took a deep sigh and, not wanting to escalate the situation, said, "Look, we just got here; at least let us stay the night." "Okay, but you are not allowed to take a step outside your room," the man said. "Hey, give them the rooms at the corners with no windows," the man told another. "Thank you," Remond said, just to please.

Remond, seeing that "Whoa, you don't want me to leave now, do you?" Remond, taking a deep sigh and not wanting to escalate the situation, said, "Look, we just got here; at least let us stay the night here."

"Okay, but you are not allowed to take a step outside your room," the man said.

"Hey, give them the room at the corners with no windows," the man said to another.

"Thank you," Remond said, just to please the man.

Remond took the key to the room and called for Sofie, and went to the corner of the floor as instructed. The room was a small, gloomy room with no windows and a single bed in the middle of the room, which covered most of the room. Remond told Sofie to sleep on the bed.

It was bugging Remond as soon as he stepped into the town: why was the town empty even in the afternoon, and why were there groups of people with firearms openly walking in the town?
