Yang Bo leaped up. Just a moment ago, he had only been pondering over Sound Waves—like how a musician could shatter a wine glass with Sound Waves. He had just casually given it a try... and, wow, it actually worked!
Paying no mind to the young lady showering in the house next door, he quickly got up and bought items made of various materials. Metal, ceramic, wood, glass, and plastic were all included.
They were all small toy ornaments, mainly meant for testing to see what kind of attack each material required.
Recently, Yang Bo had also realized that a Skill's level didn't entirely represent one's actual Power. It still relied on a person's intrinsic Power for support. Right now, for instance, he felt his own Power was too low to unleash the full potential of his Grandmaster-level Sound Wave Control.
However, since his intrinsic Power couldn't grow quickly, he was still quite satisfied with his progress over this recent period.
The next day, it took Yang Bo only half the day to master the attack methods for various materials.
He snapped his fingers, and an all-Metal ornament placed by the door instantly split into several pieces. Even among identical ornaments, no two fracture patterns were the same.
Then, he snapped his fingers again. He was currently standing at the maximum indoor distance—about seven or eight meters from the floor-to-ceiling windows to the door. With that snap, a glass ornament spontaneously shattered into pieces.
The material that could withstand a Sound Wave Attack the best was wood.
There was another type of material that Yang Bo was almost completely helpless against: things like soft plastic or silicone. No matter how he attacked it, the material remained entirely unmoved.
In addition, composite materials—like certain toys supported by internal steel wires—also didn't work.
Yang Bo was not satisfied with the methods he had currently mastered. He pondered, "The best level to reach is to shatter an object on the inside while leaving its exterior completely intact and unnoticeable."
He acted on it immediately, leaving no time to log into the game. After all, the fundamental purpose of playing the Mecha game was to improve his own Power.
Right now, he was also training his Power. It wasn't until the afternoon of the following day that he finally grasped a few tricks, though there was still a massive gap between this and what he had envisioned.
He decided to pass the company's mock assessment first. He would go to work tomorrow, come back in the evening, and find a chance to upgrade his Sound Wave Control to Grandmaster. By now, those bats had likely returned.
The next day at the company, Liu Zhijie took out a task list and said, "This is the only task left. You came in the latest."
Yang Bo took a look. It was a genuine cleaner position, responsible for cleaning a specific area. The working hours were from 10:00 PM to 4:00 AM. The location was an exhibition hall for a certain high-tech company; he would be responsible for cleaning it after it closed.
"No problem, Mr. Liu," Yang Bo replied. He hadn't expected to be the last one to arrive, but this worked out just fine.
"Go on, then. Someone will arrange things for you when you get there."
Holding the task sheet, Yang Bo headed over. This time, no one came to pick him up. When he arrived at the location, he realized it wasn't far from where he lived. It was the Dome Entertainment City, the largest entertainment facility in the city. It was similar to a football stadium on Earth, except this one was fully enclosed. The entire dome utilized a state-of-the-art virtual imaging system.
Beneath the Dome Entertainment City were several massive exhibition halls, which were essentially a ring of buildings around its perimeter, reaching over a dozen meters high. The halls were currently being set up. The person in charge here led Yang Bo to one of them and said, "Sir, you will be responsible for this exhibition hall. During your shift, just clear the garbage off the floor.
"All you need to do is push this vacuum cleaner around for a lap. Additionally, when you come in to clean, you must leave your smartwatch outside.
"Any questions?"
Yang Bo looked at the vacuum cleaner, which resembled a handcart. It was roughly over a meter wide, a meter and a half long, and seventy to eighty centimeters tall. The total area that needed cleaning was around a thousand square meters. Right now, the exhibition hall was completely empty.
"No problem," Yang Bo said. He carefully read the instruction manual. It was very simple. The machine ran on battery power; he just had to push it around for a lap. If there was a lot of garbage, he would need to manually replace the trash bag.
Yang Bo registered on the spot and was issued a work pass. This pass only allowed entry after 10:00 PM. Rumor had it that for Li Aiduo's upcoming concert, the cheapest ticket cost tens of thousands of Credit Points. These exhibition halls were used by major companies to display their merchandise.
Yang Bo strolled back home, planning to return for his shift that night. It was only a twenty-plus-minute walk to his house. He felt this was a great job. It would last for about forty days, starting tonight and ending when Li Aiduo's concert concluded and the exhibiting companies packed up and left.
The Dome Entertainment City had its own staff, but some companies didn't like hiring people with implanted chips. Besides, the Dome Entertainment City's staff was limited, so they always outsourced extra help for large-scale events like this.
Working the night shift was practically Yang Bo's specialty. He'd had no choice. In his past life, if he didn't work night shifts and overtime, he barely made any money. People talked about earning a salary of several thousand, but in reality, they were just trading their health for it. By the time you earned some money and got a bit older, it was time to spend it all at the hospital. Then you had to work overtime to earn more money, just to spend it at the hospital again. Saving money? How could they ever let you save money? They'd just hit you with something worse...
He felt tempted to test his abilities outside but reconsidered and decided against it.
Upon returning home, Yang Bo did some calculations. Buying a house shouldn't be a problem for him, but homeownership required spending at least a tenth of the property's value on various fees every year. His current free dorm was already excellent. During his working days in his past life, he had never lived in a place this nice—though, of course, the level of civilization was entirely different.
Furthermore, the security level of the Anzhijie company dorm was likely even better than what he could get for his own house. This was a high-end community. Yang Bo had checked the market; buying a similarly sized house would require roughly four to five million Credit Points, with hundreds of thousands of Credit Points going toward other taxes and fees annually.
After three seconds of thought, Yang Bo decided, "Forget it. I'll wait and see." He would focus on improving his Power first.
"Time to enter the game," Yang Bo thought, preparing to log into the Mecha game. To others, it was just a game; to him, it was a way to increase his Power.
What Yang Bo didn't know was that the name Bird Slayer Brother had already become quite famous. This poor sap was the first person in the game's history to have his Mecha blown up by the official system twice in three days.
That alone would have been one thing, but the guy's behavior was completely bizarre. First, it was slaying a bird. An eight-meter-tall Mecha wielding a five-meter-long machete, obliterating a weak, helpless, and pitiful bird in mid-air... Was that something a normal person would do?
Then came mowing the grass... Seriously, using a Mecha to mow grass? Where was his brain?
In the system settings, Yang Bo had turned off friend requests and invitations. He wasn't planning on fighting Mutant Creatures or Mutants anyway.
Yang Bo covered his entire body in Shock Wave Bombs, attached two Miniature Hydrogen Bombs for good measure, and set off!
Yang Bo didn't realize that the moment he left the base, he was recognized by other players nearby. This was because his Mecha hadn't undergone any modifications—commonly known as a Whiteboard—and it was the least used, oldest Mecha in the game. The Blade belonged to the third generation of Mechas, while the latest models were already in their double-digit generations.
"Holy crap, what is Bird Slayer Brother trying to do?" With bombs strapped all over it, the Blade Mecha honestly gave off a suicidal, point-of-no-return aura.
Yang Bo headed in a different direction. His destination this time was still the bats. It was an underground entrance. There was a massive Underworld beneath the game world, said to have been built by underground Mutant Creatures.
