Chapter 165 - Chapter 157: Pataphysics? A Detective — Leo Murphy!

O5-10 spoke frankly, hiding nothing, and for the first time the audience in the livestream finally understood the true origin of the Rebirth Plan.

> "It was the best of times, and the worst of times for the Foundation.

But it ended—and it ended badly."

She paused for several seconds before continuing, her tone calm and measured, setting aside the oppressive weight of her O5 identity.

> "The Pandora's Box era collapsed for many reasons.

Dr. Kondraki's destruction of Site-19.

Incident Zero.

And Abel's massacre of the Omega-7 team.

That was the end."

Even Leon Lake frowned slightly at that.

To be precise, in Incident Zero, Abel's role had been closer to that of a savior.

But due to timeline corruption and other unseen forces, the blame had been placed on him…

As for Kondraki destroying Site-19—Leon knew well that the cause had far more to do with the O5 Council's internal decisions.

But he remained silent. He continued listening.

---

> "The Council realized the situation was spiraling out of control,"

O5-10 continued.

"So they implemented drastic suppression measures."

Projects were terminated.

Researchers and senior personnel were demoted into powerless administrative roles.

The Foundation abandoned anomalous R&D and shifted its full focus to containment.

She sighed softly.

> "And so nine years passed… until today."

Her gaze locked onto Leon.

> "As you've seen, anomalous events are increasing at an unprecedented rate.

Thousands of new SCPs recovered in only a few years.

New Groups of Interest forming almost daily.

The Foundation's capacity is being overwhelmed.

The Council is growing desperate. They need a way to turn the tide."

Leon spoke calmly:

> "So you restarted research on SCPs outside of containment?"

O5-10 nodded.

> "Not only restarted—we revived cross-application programs, experimental weaponization divisions, internal academic exchanges…

and even created the new Thaumiel class, objects meant to contain other SCPs."

She added:

> "We opened classified archives from the Bowe era, searching for old creations we could sharpen for new wars."

Leon murmured:

> "The Rebirth Plan…"

> "Yes,"

she confirmed.

"And one of the initiatives we reinstated is Pandora's Box.

The former MTF Omega-7 has been reborn as Alpha-9 — 'Last Hope.'"

Leon raised an eyebrow.

The livestream exploded in shock.

> "No wonder Iris was moved—she's part of the task force again!"

"This Rebirth Plan… the Foundation really had no choice."

"Thousands of SCPs recovered in a few years? That's insane!"

"If the original Pandora's Box could stop apocalypses, Alpha-9 must be even stronger!"

---

O5-10 continued:

> "Originally, you were to be one of the leaders of Alpha-9.

But your exceptional performance in previous operations made me reconsider."

Leon remained expressionless.

> "I decided to grant you greater freedom—and greater authority.

I won't bind you to a fixed assignment."

She smiled slightly.

"Considering the neutralization of SCP-3396, that decision seems correct."

Her human warmth was clearer than that of the other O5s.

This was exactly why Leon was willing to cooperate with her.

Humanity could be influenced.

And human empathy meant Leon could request certain… unconventional privileges.

He opened his mouth:

> "Then regarding my application—"

But O5-10 cut him off.

> "Your request has entered the approval stage.

But before it's completed, you must report to another department."

Leon's eyes narrowed.

> "Last time it was the Tactical Theology Division… what is it now?"

O5-10 ignored the sarcasm.

> "Do you have any creative experience? Writing horror novels? Screenplays?"

Leon blinked.

The livestream audience was just as confused.

> "What kind of department asks for that?"

Leon answered carefully:

> "I am… capable of creating."

O5-10 exhaled in relief.

> "Good.

Then in three days, you will report to the Pataphysics Department.

They are dealing with a… difficult individual."

Leon was stunned.

Even the chat froze.

> "Pataphysics? What the hell is that?!"

---

Luckily, O5-10 explained:

> "Pataphysics is a sub-branch of our Metaphysics Division.

But to understand the department, you must first understand the concept."

She continued:

> "Pataphysics is originally a philosophical and literary concept—

the metaphysics of metaphysics—

dealing with absurd, impossible frameworks."

But in Foundation jargon:

> "It refers to narrative-level or meta-fictional anomalies."

Leon's expression sharpened.

> "Narrative… anomalies?"

> "Exactly,"

she said.

> "Our reality is the upper narrative.

A written novel is a lower narrative.

Now imagine a character inside that novel possessing anomalous traits—

enough power to influence the upper narrative."

Leon's eyes flickered.

> "So what you're saying is… characters inside a book can escape the book and rewrite reality?"

O5-10 nodded.

> "Yes.

Pataphysical entities can rewrite the reality below them, or influence the one above them."

She added:

> "These beings can manipulate narrative laws—

meaning they can alter the universe with power far beyond any Type-Green reality bender."

The chat erupted.

> "WTF? Characters can jump out of books?!"

"So… anime girls in real life???"

"DUDE THIS IS INSANE."

"Narrative bending stronger than reality bending? That's broken!"

---

Leon Lake exhaled slowly.

Pataphysics…

A department dealing with beings that could rewrite reality itself.

And he was being assigned there.

Who… or what… was waiting for him?
