Chapter 13 - The Jumping Twins

CHAPTER 00013

Kitzimo's expression faded from the cocky arrogance it once possessed to a distant display of concern. It was evident to Akar it would take a lot more than that to break him. Kiji turned around to face the victor, his face reading both anger and sadness.

He collapsed, blood spilling from his torso. While a number of people rushed to his side to assist him, Kitzimo was not fazed by Akar's fancy swordplay. The slight worry he had previously shown was gone now, replaced with the unrelenting thought of his people winning.

He ushered the next opponent in, waving on two skinny and lanky men who walked over with a strange posture. They also happened to look nearly identical, had it not been for the difference in hair color. Once they arrived before Akar, their unceasing grin spoke more then their words ever would.

"I am Groog," said the one on the left, placing his hand over his chest flamboyantly. Immediately after, the right one responded. "...and I am Broog." Their synchronous tone once more did the speaking for them. "Together, we possess the ability of enhanced jumping."

To test their statement, Akar made his first attack, lunging forward in a low to the ground blow. Swinging his swords forward at the legs of the twins, he instead missed as they added the vertical dimension into play, hurdling the swords at a height which even surprised some of the other Ultimo 10 goons.

Akar immediately pivoted around, not wanting to leave his backside unguarded and susceptible to attacks. Thankfully, though, the twins were still falling, having been lifted ridiculously high by the power of their jump.

"So this isGoji," Akar thought to himself. He'd read about it in books growing up, but nobody in Gurugashu actually was gifted with any. Essentially, it was a magic gifted only at birth to a lucky percentage of the population.

You had absolutely no control over what power you would get, but you were stuck with it for the rest of your life. Thankfully, no immediate drawbacks came with being a Goji user, though oftentimes the individual problems with each power caused quite a ruckus amongst the community.

Though stronger, more specific powers were possible, they were quite rare. Instead, the vast majority of the Goji-using population had a basic elemental power, such as fire, water, earth, wind, ice, etcetera.

By the looks of it, Kitzimo had gathered a group of rarities together to form a squadron powerful enough to occupy this town.

Today that changed.

Akar hurled forward, going in for another low hit just as the twins landed. Or at least, that's what they thought.

When they jumped once more to counteract the attack, Akar made a surprise jolt upward, slicing both of them before they rose out of range.

In a fit of blood and screams, the brothers crashed back into the floor, jumping no longer. Kitzimo watched more in both amazement and horror as two more of his men fell to this rookie swordsman.

Akar spun his blades in his hands, turning to face Kitzimo. With a grin, he spoke.

"Come on, give me a real challenge."
