….

The local contingent was extremely aggressive and in most cases went into conflict even against "heroes." And the superheroes themselves were not ready to face the truly dark side of society.

Moskowitz personally knew of two cases where Vought had to shell out a lot of money to hush up instances of massacres orchestrated by the defenders of order.

As he knew, in the first case, a guy nicknamed Titan had stumbled upon a warehouse of a group involved in human trafficking and, enraged by what he saw, went berserk.

The supe's powers were abnormal strength and durability, so he was apparently even close to Maeve's level of ability.

In short, after what he saw, the guy literally tore people in half and slammed them into the ground.

Kevin learned about this case firsthand when A-Train dropped him off at the scene and they found the blood-soaked superhero emerging from the building, ready to kill.

At that time, their reputation and the fear of the members of the legendary Seven brought the guy to his senses, but he no longer had a heroic career.

As far as Kevin knew, he was found some other job where he could not be afraid of a breakdown and not endanger the lives of those around him.

The second case was related to organ trafficking and the additional entrepreneurial streak of a gang called the Mantises.

How they obtained the organs, everyone probably understands, but in order not to lose profits, they also found a use for the bodies of their victims.

In short, the gang also entered the cannibal market and, after a year of active operation, was discovered by a young speedster named Flash, who, after destroying the gang and freeing the future "goods," reported it to Vought and provided a list of names beaten out of the leader, which included personalities not unknown to the public.

A few months later, the guy finally realized that the list he had handed over had disappeared and no one was going to punish the buyers on it.

So the speedster took matters into his own hands. He managed to kill three people on the list, his last victim being a congressman.

This was the last straw, after which the FBI became interested in the case, and most likely soon Vought through its own channels.

Discovering that the killer was a speedster, the list of suspects was sharply reduced, after which it was not difficult to connect the identity of the runner involved in the Mantis gang case, who in the last month had abandoned his career and hardly appeared in public, with the three corpses from the unfortunately "lost" list of buyers.

After that, A-Train was sent after him, and it was from him that Kevin learned about what had happened.

Not waiting for a third incident, this area became unofficially forbidden, and Vought no longer sends any superheroes there.

Of course, there are enthusiasts who venture into these areas on their own, but such individuals are few and they are usually supes at the level of Popclaw, meaning something armor-piercing to the head would easily blow out such a superhero's brains.

Kevin thought that it would be difficult to come up with a more ideal place to hide from the company's gaze. Perhaps only settling on the underground floors beneath the tower.

The team spent about thirty hours in this place, which Kevin stoically endured, sitting on the hot roof of the building opposite.

The whole time he was on surveillance, he ate only ordered fast food from not the best local establishments.

Fortunately, his superhuman body with an almost steel stomach allowed him to survive a lot and stay awake for a long time.

At least, it seemed to him that he could definitely go without sleep for another couple of days.

After the death of Stillwell was announced across America—blown up by Butcher, according to the news—an argument broke out among The Boys.

It was impossible to know the reason for the dispute, but it was most likely related to their mission.

When Butcher was at the helm, he commanded them with his authority, backed by a powerful charisma, and the team worked like clockwork.

Now, thanks to the mess their former captain and the FBI had left them in, they were on their own.

Hughie, even though he was occasionally the brains of the team in this version of the show, was still more of a mascot than anything else.

Frenchie couldn't give a damn about this war with Vought; he was a mercenary and a criminal who had been living just fine before Butcher showed up with Translucent in his trunk.

And MM, though he had a personal hatred for Vought, had a family in this reality that he didn't want to lose.

In a way, MM's fate in this reality was incredibly lucky, if you compared it to everything before Butcher's arrival, and tolerably decent if you looked at it now.

In the comic book universe, his life was shittier than most of the team's; only Kimiko could compete with the drama of his fate in The Boys.

As a child, his brother had died when his powers suddenly awakened, triggered by the V-compound fumes his mother had inhaled while working at Vought her whole youth.

The teenager's body began to rapidly expand while he was wearing a VERY sturdy helmet.

In short, the boy didn't fall into the bulletproof supe category, and his brain didn't survive the acquisition of superpowers.

MM's wife was a drug addict who would do literally anything for another fix and saw their daughter only as a way to make money.

He himself was addicted to breast milk and was literally slowly dying if he didn't get a sufficient dose of it every day.

After the death of her son and husband, his mother had slowly gone insane until the dormant remnants of Compound V in her body activated, turning her into a huge, shapeless monster that tried to feed milk to everyone it could reach with its tentacles.
