I woke up to faint streams of sunlight peeking through the seams of my new tent.
I was quite a bit anxious about what would happen today.
Today was no ordinary day; it was the day the clan would gather to learn of the changes that would shape our new reality.
I sat up and took a deep breath. Outside, I could hear faint voices as the settlement started to stir.
I ran my fingers over the hilt of the miniature sword, which I still kept close by. Soon, I would be given another weapon—a leader's sword—one I had to show that I deserved.
"Lady Mia, are you ready to get dressed?"
Jamila's soft voice called from the foot of my bed.
She had carried in a cot for herself in the night, as she would now be a permanent resident as a personal attendant.
Ayesha sat up on her bed and rubbed her eye. Abu was still softly snoring.
"Yes, I will get ready now."
Jamila pulled a new set of tan robes from god knows where.
I glance at it askance and then look at her.
