Although the Four Great Gods were satisfied with Elise, they even teased that if it had been them, things might have been even more useful.
However, the situation had already reached a conclusion. Even if they wanted to change it now, it would be extremely difficult. It was better to continue as things were, only adjusting the approach slightly.
"Chen Xi has clearly started to suspect your identity. At a time like this, it's better not to cling to him constantly. Instead, step back and live at a distance. Sometimes close observation creates suspicion, but from afar, you can see things that you might have missed before."
Annihilation spoke very earnestly.
His words gave the gods, who had been somewhat dissatisfied, a temporary sense of a new breakthrough.
Elise herself also felt that they had gone down the wrong path from the beginning.
Even if a sudden change now might have limited effect, it was better than doing nothing at all.
The room was silent, and she was alone.
There was nothing for her to pack, so she simply left on her own.
The wind was strong, and the rain poured heavily. The sky was pitch black.
Elise was just a normal human body. Walking into the rain, she was soon soaked to the bone.
She didn't mind. Instead, she followed the dissipating traces in the air, moving toward the left.
At this time, Chen Xi had already reached the city center.
From time to time, many mutants could be seen moving through the downpour.
"Is the power still out?"
Someone couldn't help but ask.
"The power plant was struck directly by lightning. A lot inside was destroyed. Even though many people have gone to help, and much of the damaged equipment has been salvaged, the situation still isn't looking good."
A thin mutant leapt in front of Chen Xi, drenched from head to toe. He wiped his face with his hand and gave Chen Xi an awkward smile. "The rain's still heavy, but since the first floor was flooded, many ordinary people have come out of their houses."
Another mutant arrived from a distance, his tone full of concern and a trace of resentment. "These ordinary humans are crazy. They don't even know the situation. If something happens in this rain, they could die outside and nobody would know."
He had just saved an ordinary person who had been struck by debris.
The person struggled in the water, and if they hadn't arrived in time, he might have drowned in the downpour. The scene was almost absurd.
It was entirely preventable.
"For ordinary humans, they don't have many ways to save themselves. You need to bear with them a bit more."
Chen Xi's tone was calm as he spoke.
"Try to work a little harder tonight. The rain probably won't last much longer."
Chen Xi couldn't do everything for them. If one day he left this universe to seek opportunities elsewhere, what would happen to these humans and mutants in his absence?
He hoped for peaceful coexistence between humans and mutants, and he hoped to foster that under his guidance.
But he knew very well that such a situation would be hard to achieve in the short term. Yet if nobody made an effort, even the easiest things would remain impossible.
That night, mutants were saving ordinary humans, while ordinary humans were trying to protect their precarious property.
Everyone was watching the rain outside, and it showed no sign of stopping.
Fear and unease filled them.
By dawn, the rain gradually lessened. Around eight or nine in the morning, the sky brightened, and the rain turned into a light drizzle.
The city felt like a deserted, ghostly place.
By noon, the sun finally appeared, and people slowly emerged from their homes.
No one went to work or school that day.
Walking through the streets, people began cleaning up after assessing the surrounding situation.
Most had stayed home during the storm, shaken by the night, and had slept poorly.
Those who ventured out had suffered injuries, but the number of injured did not exceed twenty.
Yet such injuries were entirely unnecessary.
"This city's level of injury is much better than other cities."
A man with glasses and partly graying hair carried a large medical kit. After observing for a while, he slowly approached Chen Xi.
Chen Xi raised an eyebrow, studying the seemingly ordinary man—a kind-looking elder.
"I am a doctor, part of an organized and professional medical team," the man introduced himself briefly to Chen Xi. "I know you. You are Chen Xi, the one who saved this world."
"You're a little late. The injured have already been sent to the hospital, and some injuries weren't that serious."
Wanda stood beside Chen Xi, speaking up.
"I am a doctor in the traditional sense, but we are Doctors Without Borders. We exist in people's hearts. We help countless people—Chen Xi, you are the same. You have helped many people. To us, you are indispensable."
"I'm not interested in being a doctor at all."
Chen Xi smiled and refused without hesitation.
"Humans and mutants are in a state of peaceful coexistence now, across the world. But in places you cannot see, humans are suffering, and mutants are grieving. You may think you've changed something, but in reality, there are things you haven't changed."
The man, claiming to be a Doctor Without Borders, had tried to shake Chen Xi's hand. When Chen Xi declined, he naturally lowered his hand.
"Helping others is a very rewarding experience. Reducing deaths worldwide is fulfilling. Your abilities are strong. I know you once used large-scale time magic to resurrect the dead."
The doctor spoke slowly, his gaze at Chen Xi flickering with anticipation.
Wanda stepped in front of him, blocking Chen Xi.
