----------------------------------------------------------

After bidding farewell to Darkness, Emiya found a thief and paid him to learn the skill Detect Foe.

Not everyone was like Darkness, who would casually give away their skills.

Paying money was the most practical solution.

Fair trade. No scams.

As for Kazuma Sato, he also spent a large amount of money to learn several skills from others. Naturally, most of that money came from Emiya.

By the time they returned to the mansion that evening, all their skill points were gone, and several new skills had been learned.

Emiya learned three skills: Healing Magic, Iron Wall, and Detect Foe.

Kazuma Sato also learned three skills: One-Handed Sword, Escape, and Lurk. The combination wasn't bad.

During dinner, Emiya told Kazuma Sato and Aqua that he had recruited a Crusader for the party.

"A guy or a girl?" Kazuma Sato asked.

"A girl."

"Is it that blonde beauty you were hitting on this morning?" Kazuma Sato's expression immediately turned lecherous.

Emiya nodded. "That's right. It's her."

Kazuma Sato whistled without thinking. His eyes were full of shock and envy.

"Are you some kind of harem protagonist? You just met her today, and you already recruited a Crusader into our party. A Crusader!"

As a top-tier class, Crusaders were undeniably powerful. No matter where they went, parties would fight to recruit them.

Yet one had joined their newly formed party.

Kazuma Sato refused to believe Emiya wasn't a harem protagonist.

"You're overthinking it," Emiya said. "The main reason I could invite Darkness is because no one else wants her."

"No one wants her?" Kazuma Sato looked unconvinced. "She's a Crusader!"

Emiya asked back, "Do you think anyone wants an Archpriest who maxed out party tricks?"

Kazuma Sato subconsciously glanced at Aqua.

Aqua instantly exploded. "Why are you looking at me? I'm a goddess! A goddess! I'll punish you for your disrespect!"

Kazuma Sato looked away. "So she's a useless Crusader too?"

"More or less," Emiya said.

"What exactly makes her useless?" Kazuma Sato pressed on.

"She can't hit enemies at all."

"...Then why did you recruit such a useless Crusader?" Kazuma Sato covered his face. They already had one useless goddess.

Emiya spoke calmly. "Although Darkness is indeed lacking when it comes to attacking-"

"No. No. No. That's not 'lacking.' That's completely useless."

Emiya ignored him and continued. "But Darkness is exceptional at defense. The reason she can't hit enemies is because she put all her skill points into defensive skills. You can treat her as a dedicated meat shield."

Kazuma Sato sucked in a breath. "Using a girl as a meat shield is way too cruel."

Emiya glanced at him.

You're the future devilish Kazuma. You don't get to say that.

"Relax," Emiya said. "She'll be happy."

"...Happy?" Kazuma Sato's heart sank. A bad feeling crept up.

"Exactly what it sounds like."

"...Don't tell me."

"That's right. Exactly what you're thinking."

Aqua didn't understand their conversation and looked irritated. "Hey. Hey. What are you two whispering about? Don't exclude me, a goddess!"

Kazuma Sato ignored her entirely, clutching his head as he wailed. "Why did you recruit someone useless in both ability and personality into our party?!"

Naturally, Emiya ignored the wailing.

The next day.

At the Adventurers' Guild.

"This is Darkness. From now on, she's a member of our party. Please welcome her." Emiya gestured to the blonde beauty sitting beside him.

He was the first to clap.

Aqua followed immediately, clapping enthusiastically.

Only Kazuma Sato stared with dead fish eyes and weakly muttered, "Heh."

Darkness spoke excitedly. "Thank you for welcoming me. You don't have to worry about my class. When we encounter enemies, I'll charge in without hesitation. Just use me as a shield and go all out."

As she spoke, her face flushed red, and she panted lightly, clearly thrilled.

Seeing that things were already decided, Kazuma Sato gave up resisting. "So what are we doing today?"

"Now that we have a Crusader and have learned some new skills," Emiya said, "I plan to hunt goblins today. Any objections?"

Aqua rubbed her hands together. "None. They're just goblins. Watch me, a goddess, send them flying."

"A goddess?" Darkness looked at Aqua strangely.

Kazuma Sato pointed at his own head. "Don't mind her. She's got a loose screw and always thinks she's a goddess."

Darkness looked at Aqua with sympathy.

The slandered Aqua immediately grabbed Kazuma Sato by the neck and started shaking him violently.

"I'm dying! I'm dying! Someone save me!" Kazuma Sato cried, looking toward Emiya.

Emiya ignored him and smiled. "Since everyone agrees, I'll go accept the quest. Wait here."

He walked over to the quest board, which was filled with posted requests.

"Clearing Aegil trees negatively affecting the forest. Reward based on quantity."

"Lost pet white wolf."

"Private sword lessons for a puppy. Requirements: Rune Knight or Sword Master."

"Looking for test subjects for a magic experiment. Requirements: Strong vitality or high magic resistance."

Emiya scanned the board and eventually found the goblin-hunting quest tucked into a corner.

He tore it down and went to the counter to register.

The receptionist was still Luna. When she saw Emiya taking a goblin quest, she froze for a moment.

"Goblins are group monsters," she said cautiously. "A goblin horde usually has at least a dozen members. Is it really okay with just you?"

She looked genuinely worried.

"Don't worry," Emiya replied. "We added a Crusader to the party."

"A Crusader? Is it Darkness?" Luna recalled that Axel only had a handful of Crusaders, and only one of them was currently without a party.

"That's right."

"But Darkness is..." Luna hesitated, clearly uncomfortable speaking ill of someone behind their back.

"I know what you want to say," Emiya said. "But don't worry. It's just that no one has discovered the correct way to use Darkness yet."

Luna's expression turned strange.

The correct way to use Darkness sounded unsettling.

Still, she registered the quest and offered a reminder.

"If you encounter danger, please abandon the quest. A quest is important, but an adventurer's life is more important. As long as you're alive, you can start over."

"Thank you."

After paying the deposit, Emiya turned and left the counter.

He regrouped with the others and quickly led them out of town.

The three of them rode their scooters, with Aqua carrying Darkness, and headed toward the goblin territory.

Before long, they reached the forest where goblins were active.

Goblins weren't individually strong, but they moved in groups and wielded weapons. They were a type of wild demi-human-small, agile, and extremely aggressive. They attacked both humans and livestock.

For a normal beginner adventurer, they were a nightmare.

Unfortunately for the goblins, Emiya's group was no longer made up of beginners.

Emiya alone, if serious, could wipe them all out.

Telekinesis was convenient enough. On top of that, he also possessed the powerful Fantasy Creation ability.

After entering the forest, Emiya immediately activated Detect Foe.

An invisible sense spread outward, instantly informing him of nearby enemies.

As they advanced, a group of goblins quickly entered his detection range.

"Found them," Emiya said. "Eight o'clock direction. Eight goblins total."

Kazuma Sato tightened his grip on the Damascus blade. "What's the plan?"

"Simple. Darkness."

"I'm here," Darkness replied, her voice trembling with excitement.

"When I give the order, you charge in and draw their attention. Kazuma, you follow and eliminate them while they're distracted. Aqua, cast your blessing magic and be ready to heal at any time."

Aqua's blessing magic had three effects.

The first increased luck, though with Aqua's own abysmal luck, it wouldn't even match Kazuma Sato's natural luck.

The second boosted stats-strength, agility, magic power, and more.

The third enhanced artistic ability, a magic that could turn someone into an art master.

Emiya was clearly referring to the second effect.

"Can you do it?" Emiya asked quietly after issuing the instructions.

Everyone nodded.

"Good," Emiya said. "Aqua, begin."

"Leave it to me."

Hearing her cue, Aqua immediately began casting her blessing magic.
