Chapter 11 - The Legacy Summit Invitation

The cheers of the arena still echoed long after the duel had ended.

Students filled every corridor of the Legacy Academy with one name on their lips.

Aarav Umbra.

The forgotten heir.

The shadow prince.

The boy who defeated Kaiden Stormborn.

Every whisper carried either fear, admiration, or hatred.

And somewhere above all of it, the Six Houses were already moving.

The Tower of Umbra was silent when Aarav returned.

The moment he crossed the threshold, the black flames along the walls flared brighter, as if the tower itself acknowledged his victory.

Nightfall rested at his side.

His body ached.

His mana reserves were nearly empty.

But his mind was sharper than ever.

In the centre hall, Kael and Seraphine were already waiting.

Lyra stood near the staircase, arms crossed, silver eyes calm but thoughtful.

Aarav looked at all three.

"So."

He placed the black invitation scroll on the stone table.

"The Legacy Summit."

The scroll itself looked ancient.

Black silk tied with silver thread.

At its centre was a seal made from the emblems of all seven houses.

Even the broken Umbra crest had been included.

Kael stared at it with cold amusement.

"How generous of them."

Seraphine's expression remained grim.

"This is not an invitation."

"It is a battlefield disguised as honour."

Lyra nodded.

"The Legacy Summit decides succession rights among the heirs."

She stepped closer.

"Future rulers are chosen there."

"Alliances are formed."

"Enemies disappear."

Aarav leaned against the table.

"And they want me inside."

Kael's voice lowered.

"Because they cannot kill you openly now."

He pointed toward the scroll.

"If they destroy you inside the Summit, it becomes politics."

"Not murder."

A faint smile touched Aarav's lips.

"Convenient."

Seraphine stepped forward.

"There is more."

She placed an old silver map on the table.

At its centre stood the academy.

Far beyond it, hidden within the mountains, was another location marked by ancient runes.

A floating fortress.

A city above the clouds.

Lyra's eyes narrowed slightly.

"The Celestial Citadel…"

Kael nodded.

"The seat of the Legacy Summit."

"Built by the first rulers of the Seven Houses."

"No ordinary student enters there."

"Only heirs."

Aarav studied the map.

"So this is where kings are made."

Kael corrected him.

"No."

His voice turned colder.

"This is where kings are betrayed."

Silence settled.

Aarav looked at the broken Umbra crest on the invitation.

The same place where his bloodline was erased.

Now it called him back.

Not as a guest.

As a threat.

His fingers brushed the seal.

"Then I'll attend."

Lyra looked at him sharply.

"You're saying that too easily."

Aarav's silver-crimson eyes lifted.

"If they want me inside their lion's den…"

His voice was calm.

"I'll bring shadows with me."

Kael smiled.

"There he is."

That evening, Professor Drake personally arrived at the Tower of Umbra.

Even he paused for a moment at the restored entrance, noticing how much the ruined tower had changed.

The old, broken structure now carried a presence.

Power.

Like a sleeping beast opening one eye.

He entered without ceremony.

Aarav met him in the main hall.

Professor Drake stood with his usual stern posture.

But tonight, his expression was more serious.

"You accepted the invitation."

It wasn't a question.

Aarav nodded.

"Yes."

Drake exhaled slowly.

"Good."

That surprised him.

Aarav raised an eyebrow.

"You approve?"

Drake folded his arms.

"I approve of strength."

His scarred gaze moved to the Umbra portraits on the walls.

"The academy was never neutral, Aarav."

"People like to pretend otherwise."

"But the truth is simple."

"The Six Houses built this place to train heirs for war."

His voice lowered.

"And the summit is where those wars begin."

Lyra stepped from the staircase shadows.

"Then why warn him?"

Professor Drake looked at her.

Then back to Aarav.

"Because your existence is forcing this academy to remember what it buried."

A brief silence followed.

Then he reached inside his coat and placed a silver badge on the table.

The academy crest.

But beneath it was a black line.

An old mark.

"The summit requires official academy sponsorship."

"I'm giving you mine."

Even Kael looked surprised.

Aarav stared at the badge.

"Why?"

Drake's answer was immediate.

"Because I fought under a man who once served House Umbra."

The room fell silent.

Professor Drake's voice turned quieter.

"He told me one thing before he died."

His gaze sharpened.

'When the shadows return, choose truth over fear.'

He stepped back.

"I ignored those words for years."

His eyes met Aarav's.

"I won't ignore them now."

Then, without another word, he turned and left.

The tower remained silent long after the door closed.

Kael spoke first.

"Interesting."

Seraphine nodded.

"Not all loyalties died."

Aarav looked at the silver badge.

One more piece.

One more ally.

Small.

But real.

Later that night, Aarav stood alone on the balcony again.

The invitation scroll rested in his hand.

Below, the academy slept.

Above, the moon watched.

Footsteps approached softly.

Lyra.

She stopped beside him, looking toward the distant mountains.

"The Celestial Citadel is dangerous."

Aarav smiled faintly.

"You've mentioned that."

Lyra ignored the joke.

"My older brother entered the Summit three years ago."

Aarav turned slightly.

"You never mentioned a brother."

Her silver eyes darkened.

"Because he never came back."

The wind grew colder.

"He wasn't killed officially."

She said the words carefully.

"He simply… vanished."

Aarav's expression hardened.

"You think the houses removed him."

Lyra nodded.

"He discovered something."

"Something the elders didn't want spoken of."

She looked at him directly.

"If you go there, the same could happen to you."

A long silence followed.

Then Aarav said quietly,

"Then I'll make sure I come back."

Lyra stared at him for a moment.

Then she reached into her sleeve and handed him a small silver charm.

A moon-shaped pendant.

"This will let me find you inside the Citadel."

Aarav took it.

Their fingers brushed for the briefest second.

Neither of them moved.

The silence between them changed.

Softer.

More dangerous.

Lyra stepped back first.

"Don't misunderstand."

Her voice regained its calm edge.

"This is strategy."

Aarav smirked.

"Of course."

She gave him one last look.

"Try not to die, Aarav."

Then she turned and disappeared into the tower shadows.

Aarav looked down at the pendant in his hand.

Moonlight reflected across its silver surface.

Kael's voice appeared behind him.

"She likes you."

Aarav didn't even turn.

"She threatens me constantly."

Kael sounded amused.

"Exactly."

For the first time in days, Aarav actually laughed.

But the moment passed quickly.

His gaze returned to the distant mountains.

To the unseen Celestial Citadel.

To the place where the next war waited.

Far above the clouds, in the hidden fortress of the Summit, a throne room of gold and crimson stood silent.

A man in royal Solaris robes opened his eyes.

Before him, a black flame burned.

"The Umbra heir has accepted."

Another figure stepped from the shadows.

Older.

Terrifying.

The true head of House Solaris.

His voice was like cold fire.

"Good."

His eyes reflected the flames.

"Bring him to the Summit."

"This time…"

The flame darkened.

"The last shadow will not leave alive."
