"Well, there's a first time for everything," he replied with a small shrug.
Olaedo let out a long, surrendering sigh. "Fine. Let's just try it."
What followed was nothing short of a slow burn disaster.
They sat on the couch like two people trying to solve a puzzle no one explained properly. Both of them leaned in, then leaned out, then adjusted again, close enough to look natural, but not close enough to activate their survival instincts.
Chibuzor rested his arm on the backrest, trying to look casual. Too casual. Olaedo immediately tilted away, her face twisted into an expression stuck between "happy couple" and "someone help me."
"Your smile looks like someone forced you to bite a carrot," Chibuzor murmured, the corner of his mouth lifting.
She shot him a sharp look. "And you're not exactly giving 'soft movie date' either. You look like you're calculating stock markets."
He snorted. A tiny laugh escaped her. The awkwardness cracked a little.
