Proof that could get her killed.
"Benedict?" she whispered, her heartbeat stuttering. "Is something wrong?"
"Nothing you need to worry about."
That was a lie.
He stepped back just slightly. "I'll get you some black dye."
"Benedict? Do you know why mum is so afraid of me keeping the natural colour of my hair?" Sera asked him. She fingered a strand of her hair.
"No," Benedict lied smoothly. He busied himself straightening the cutlery on the breakfast tray. "But if your mum says you should, then you should. Just know that she is only trying to keep you safe."
Sera narrowed her eyes just a little, sensing the omission.
"Thank you, Benedict." Sera smiled. "For everything."
He softened. "I'm sure the storm will pass soon and you can return to your mother." He glanced toward the window where the rain lashed sideways. "You will be back home and safe."
