Chapter 11 - Night Of The Moon

The sun had fallen far down the horizon, now the sky was clad in black clouds"

and cold winds, with the rhythmic hoot of owls in the forest.

" It's time,' Amon's voice was calm… his words lingering in the mind of Ethan like an echo that seems to not leave.

Ethan got off the bed and put on his shoes. He knew that once he left the house this night, he would not be returning the same...never again.

" Never again will I be weak," he repeated in his heart, as he opened his door and stepped out.

Leaving his room, he went down the stairs and walked towards the door of the house.

" And where do you think you're going young master?" A voice called out from behind, causing him to stop.

* Shit!* He turned around, only to be met with "…the judgmental eyes of Ella, the maid.

" Oh, well..um.." he scratched the back of his head for an answer," um... I'm going for an evening walk in the forest, I heard the weather was going to be great tonight,"

" The weather?" Ella raised an eyebrow to his explanation, finding it to sound very suspicious, but she had no way if proving it. Instead, she had an idea of her own.

" Alright then, how about I come with you!" Ella smiled brightly, her expression of joy in contrast to Ethan's shock.

" Wh- wha- what? As in, you, come with me? F-for my walk?" His eyes had an uncomfortable look in them, but he made due sure that he didn't show them to her.

" Yes, hold up, let me go change my clothes to a "more… suitable attire," Ella said with her usual smile, as she turned around and went over to her room to change her clothes.

" Damnit! What do I do, she can't come with!" Ethan felt helpless at the situation. He was going out to do God knows what in the forest, so he couldn't just have Ella come along. It could be dangerous.

" Well you had better find a way to lose her quick, else she will interrupt your awakening, and nothing can be done about that if you become a faulty beasts," Amon cautioned with the upmost seriousness in his voice.

* Maybe I should just leave while she's changing....yes! I'll leave before she gets back, then when I get back, I'll apologize and tell her I got impatient*

After thinking of that, he was prepared to turn around and leave, when he suddenly heard footsteps behind.

" I'm ready!" Ella's voice rose behind him, causing Ethan to grip the handle of the door so tightly that it became slightly bent.

" Ha! Well then, let's get going," he said with an awkward smile on his face, as he opened the door and stepped outside.

Just as she was about to leave, Ella's eyes caught notice of the slight bent in the door, making her puzzled.

* Was that always like that? It seems I'll have to call someone in to fix it later,* she thought, as she closed the door behind her, the two, slowly walking towards the main gate of the mansion.

••••••

It's been about ten minutes since the two left the house, and all they had some was walking around the forest aimlessly in silence.

* Come on! Come on! Think Ethan! How are we going to get her to go back?!*

" Hurry up with that thinking of yours child, the night would not last forever," Amon said again, a constant reminder that he did have much time, and instead was on an ultimatum.

" It would be best if you actually "stop making side comments and actually help out too you know!" Ethan whispered in annoyance.

" Hm? Did you say something?" Hearing Ethan's words, Ella had thought that he was speaking to her.

" What no, it wasn't you I was talking t-" before he finished his words, he suddenly had an idea.

" Ah!" Desperate, Ethan threw himself to the ground with the most dramatic gasp he could muster.

" Ethan? Ethan! What's wrong?" Seeing him drop to the ground, Ella suddenly became worried.

" Ouch! My leg! It's because I didn't bring my walking shoes. Ah!" Ethan said, trying his best to act pained.

" Walking shoes? What walking shoes?!" Ella asked with concern.

" I- I usually have a different show I use for walking in the forest, if I don't use that show, my leg would continue to be hurt or pained for a long time! Ow!" Ethan screamed at the top of his lungs, as he moved his body around on the ground to make it seem more believable.

" O- okay! I'll go grab the shoes! Where are they?!"

" U-under my bed! Ahhh!"

" Okay! Wait right here, don't go anywhere, I'll be back!" She spun and sprinted back toward the house." running as fast as she could.

Seeing her silhouette slowly disappearing, Ethan calmly got off the ground, as he watched until she vanished behind the trees… then waited five more seconds, just in case she doubled back.

* I did it. I got her to leave!*

" You're lucky intelligence isn't required for awakening. Are humans truly such imbeciles that you'd actually believe such lies. And your acting was distinguishably horrible," Amon snorted in disappointment. When he thought humans cannot be more disappointing, they find a way to prove him wrong.

" Can you just shut up for once and not criticize, I did get her away for your information. Meaning I got the job done," He was honestly beginning to get tired of this wolf's never ending judgemental attitude.

" Anyways, so what now, what am I going to do?" He asked inquisitively, his heart pounding against his ribs like a drum under a giant's hammer.

" First, we must reach higher grounds, the moonlight there would be more concentrated," Amon's voice had suddenly become solemn, like a priest about to enter the church.

" Alright, I think I remember there being a hill around here somewhere. There's meant to be an oak tree on it anyways," Ethan said, recalling the times he had walked past the hill and looked longingly at the majestic tree at the top.

" Alright then, let us hurry, moonlight decreases with every second we waste,"

" This is it. No turning back."
