Chapter 106: Leaving! Metropolis!
Kenji first released his other Pokémon to stretch and move around.
He placed Pupitar's Pokéball on the healing machine for a simple recovery. Then, Kenji began packing the items he needed for his journey.
Knowing Kenji was about to travel, Director He had sent him two extra-large storage backpacks in the past couple of days.
Kenji used one backpack to hold Pokéblocks and his own food. The other held essential wilderness items like Potions, Revives, Repels, as well as his own clothes and toiletries.
"Lii..."
While Kenji packed, Bellossom hopped onto the desk, standing beside him without speaking or interrupting.
The tiny Bellossom standing there looked just like a small figurine. Its adorable appearance made it easy to see why Larvitar was so utterly smitten.
Thinking this, Kenji smiled. He scooped Bellossom into a hug and gently twirled the two small red flowers on its head.
"Lii..."
A smile instantly spread across Bellossom's small face as it rubbed its cheek against Kenji's hand.
...
The next morning, Kenji slung one backpack over his shoulder. The other was worn by Ninetales.
Ninetales was currently wearing a high ponytail, a simple white t-shirt, and jeans.
She looked exactly like a clean, vibrant college student.
"Let's go," Kenji said, giving Ninetales a look of approval.
Ninetales seemed highly anticipating this.
After all, the little one had been confined to the Breeding House since birth. Even after Kenji adopted her, she had only seen the urban sprawl of Metropolis. She had never seen what lay outside the city limits.
Leaving Metropolis Academy, Kenji hailed a taxi, heading straight for the outskirts of the city.
The traffic was heavy, and by the time the driver finally dropped them outside Metropolis, it was already 10 AM.
Kenji opened the door and got out. The driver turned the car around and headed back into the city.
Kenji looked around, then pulled out a device about the size of a phone. He flicked a switch, and the black electronic screen lit up, displaying a map.
It was a Wilderness Map. Its purpose was to help navigate and confirm locations in the wild. It also marked which Pokémon species inhabited which areas.
A small red dot marked Kenji's current location.
It was clearly visible that Kenji's red dot was currently in a Green Zone.
Green Zones meant that all powerful and dangerous Pokémon had been cleared, and dedicated Elite Trainers were responsible for 24-hour patrols to ensure the road was safe.
Yellow Zones meant Kenji was entering areas where wild Pokémon were active. This was no longer a place for ordinary people to tread; it was a world dominated by Pokémon, where a single mistake could lead to a dangerous attack.
Red Zones were extremely dangerous places, ruled by Dominant Pokémon whose territorial instincts were intense. Even Elite Trainers rarely dared to trespass.
Kenji's destination was Jinling City in Sujiang Province, the home of the Sujiang Gym.
The Gym Leader there was named Gu Siyu, a master of Water-type Pokémon.
It was clear that outside Metropolis, aside from a few traffic highways and railways, the rest of the area was marked Yellow.
If Kenji chose the shortest path—a straight line to Jinling City—it would take him through several Red Zones.
After quickly confirming his direction, Kenji followed a small path beside the highway, leaving the road and heading toward the nearby forest.
Once off the highway, Kenji immediately sent out Beedrill and Bellossom.
As for the remaining three Pokémon: Gyarados's body was too large and would be inconvenient in this dense, wooded terrain.
If he sent out Pupitar now, the trees in the forest would be in serious trouble.
Arbok, although it was a forest-dwelling Pokémon, was too special. Kenji didn't want it to receive unnecessary exposure just yet.
"Lii..."
Bellossom had just emerged from its Pokéball. Its eyes lit up at the sight of the surrounding forest. It happily spun in a circle, its grass skirt fluttering.
Ninetales crooked a finger and used a bit of psychic power to lift Bellossom into her arms.
Bellossom was simply too cute. Even Ninetales couldn't resist.
Bellossom didn't resist. It nestled obediently against Ninetales's chest, its hands resting on Ninetales's arm, peering around.
As for Beedrill, the moment it appeared, it dutifully flew up behind Kenji, its scarlet compound eyes scanning the surroundings, eliminating any potential danger to its trainer.
With Beedrill acting as his personal bodyguard, Kenji felt much safer. He walked confidently, map in hand, into the woods.
After about twenty minutes of walking, Beedrill suddenly let out a low hiss.
The sound was subtle, but Kenji understood. Beedrill had detected a dangerous presence and was giving him a warning.
"There are several Ghost-type Pokémon watching us from the shadows. They don't appear to be wild Pokémon."
Ninetales's voice echoed in Kenji's mind.
Kenji's eyes darkened.
Targeted right outside the city.
Team R.
Almost instantly, Kenji thought of Team R.
After all, he had some bad history with them.
"How strong are those Ghost-type Pokémon?" Kenji asked Ninetales in a low voice, without panicking.
"Very weak," Ninetales transmitted back calmly.
Kenji hummed. He signaled Beedrill.
"Find everyone who is following us in the shadows."
"Hiss..."
Beedrill hissed, and its figure subtly vanished from behind Kenji.
