Chapter 43 - Chapter 43

Chapter 43: Combined Attack Technique, Hammer of the Thunder God

In terms of pure destructive power, Gegetsuburi was currently Mord's strongest killing move.

If he wanted to enhance it further, there was only one way.

A wild idea suddenly flashed through Mord's mind as he looked at the evil monk Mierji in the distance.

The demonized Mierji seemed to sense a trace of danger, letting out uneasy roars before charging toward Mord once again.

Watching the monster closing in, Mord's eyes turned even colder, and the Zanpakutō in his hand began to undergo a strange transformation.

First, it took the form of Gonryōmaru, then instantly shifted to Gegetsuburi.

However, this time, Gegetsuburi was crackling with lightning.

If Gegetsuburi alone wasn't destructive enough, what about adding the power of lightning?

It was just a fleeting thought, but to his surprise, he actually managed it. Mord gripped the hilt tightly with both hands, pouring all his aura into it.

Gegetsuburi began to emit an intense glow.

"Die!"

Facing the rapidly approaching monster, Mord swung Gegetsuburi in a full arc and smashed it forward with tremendous force.

The impact produced an explosive sound—two distinct sounds, in fact.

The first was the piercing sonic boom caused by Gegetsuburi's extreme speed tearing through the air.

The second was the explosive sound of the evil monk Mierji's massive body being struck.

Centered on his chest, Mierji's torso was completely obliterated by Mord's thunderous hammer strike. A chaotic mess of internal organs gushed out from the gaping hole in his back.

The evil monk Mierji looked down at his hollowed-out body, his bloodthirsty eyes gradually regaining rationality before he toppled backward.

Boom!

A heavy thud reverberated throughout the hall.

"Hah." Mord let out a long exhale.

This was his first time using a Zanpakutō combination technique, and also the first time he had fought at full strength in battle. The results did not disappoint him. During the Hunter Exam, he had deliberately held back due to the presence of monsters like Hisoka and Illumi.

Mord found himself thoroughly enjoying the sensation of fighting with all his might.

It seemed he was naturally suited to survive in this world.

After being killed by Mord, the evil monk Mierji reverted to his original obese form, though more than half his body had already been blasted away.

Countless points of light still emerged from his corpse, only to be absorbed by the Zanpakutō in Mord's hand.

Though he had witnessed this scene many times, Mord felt astonished each time. Once the absorption was complete, he opened his character status panel.

[Name: Mord]

[Nen Ability Level: C]

[Nen Ability: Zanpakutō]

[Awakened Attributes]:

[Pierce Him, Gonryōmaru! – Attaches lightning damage to Nen ability attacks (LV2: 1327/5000, Shikai unlockable)]

[Shatter Him, Gegetsuburi! – Possesses immense destructive power (LV2: 823/3000, Shikai unlockable)]

[Manipulation-Type Energy: 536/100 (Can extract related attributes)]

His Nen ability level had strengthened, meaning his total aura capacity had increased.

Although Nen abilities are divided into six major types, not every Nen user stands precisely at the endpoint of their affinity. Each time, the Zanpakutō only absorbed the strongest Nen ability type of the deceased, while the aura from other types was used to nourish Mord himself.

This was why Mord's own aura had grown so rapidly in such a short time.

Feeling the enhancement of his own strength, Mord dismissed the Zanpakutō in his hand. Gazing at the scattered remains of corpses, he took out his phone and dialed Lippo's number.

"Hello, this is Lippo."

"The mission is complete, but the scene is a bit messy. It seems you'll need to send someone for cleanup," Mord paused before continuing, "By the way, since the evil monk Mierji resisted desperately, to protect myself and the surviving civilians, I couldn't hold back and ended up killing him."

"..." After a long silence on the other end, Lippo's voice finally returned. "Understood. Send me the address, and I'll have people there immediately. You can leave now. The bounty will be transferred directly to your Hunter License account."

"Then I'll trouble you, Warden," Mord said, a slight smirk curling his lips. This guy really has a talent for acting.

Wasn't hiring me precisely to have me deliver the killing blow?

Mord glanced at the hall, now resembling a hellish slaughterhouse, then turned and walked away, stepping through the sticky blood.

...

Half an hour later.

Every police officer in Aftab City was mobilized. Dozens of police cars and ambulances sped from the city center, startling all the citizens.

Everyone wondered what could have happened to warrant such a massive police response.

The police cars finally stopped in a suburban villa district.

"Master, what kind of case requires such a large-scale operation? Is there a gang leader hiding in this villa? Or terrorists?" asked a young officer who had recently joined the force.

A noticeably more composed middle-aged man glanced at his apprentice and replied in a low voice, "Remember, observe more and speak less later."

"Got it."

The young officer responded, though it was unclear if he truly took it to heart.

But when they arrived at the scene, the young officer could no longer maintain his previous casual demeanor. His face instantly turned deathly pale.

Urgh— Urgh—

He couldn't hold back and vomited on the spot.

Not only him, but also some less experienced police officers felt the same way.

Working as a police officer, one would normally be accustomed to all kinds of bloody scenes, but the scene before their eyes was simply unlike anything in the human world.

It was like a scene from hell.

Even the composed middle-aged police chief didn't look too well, but having weathered many storms over his decades in the force, he had encountered matters from that world before.

However, none of his past experiences had been as bloody and brutal as what lay before him now.

Yet even under such circumstances, he did not forget his duties.

"Get the medical team in immediately to check if there are any survivors. If there are, prioritize their rescue. Also, have someone cross-reference the identities of the deceased and handle the aftermath properly."

"The publicity team should also prepare. Once things here are settled, hold a press conference right away. If anyone leaks information about the scene without authorization, you know the disciplinary consequences within the police force."

...

Mord returned to his house. Before entering, he noticed the little girl from next door, just like many times before, doing her homework outside her home.

It seemed her father was inside discussing business again.

His wife had been away for so long, yet he showed no concern.

His head had already turned into a green pasture, yet all he cared about was his own work.

He wondered if Taya had died in the earlier chaos.

This was something Mord hadn't paid particular attention to.

Mord glanced at the little girl and then closed his door.
