Serena didn't cry right away. She stood frozen in front of her father like her mind couldn't accept what her eyes were seeing. I had expected tears, or for her to scream but she stood transfixed.
Her hands trembled at her sides before she finally lifted them to her mouth.
"Dad?" Her voice was so full of emotion it made something in my chest squeeze
She ran to him so fast I almost reached forward to steady her. Her father opened his arms just in time.
She crashed into him, wrapping her arms around him with such force that he stumbled a little, laughing under his breath.
I didn't care that this whole thing had taken weeks to arrange, or that I had lost sleep making sure he stayed safe, or that keeping this secret had made things harder for both of us. None of that mattered now.
The look on Serena's face was more than enough to last me for months. She was starting to affect me greatly—she had absolutely no idea how much she did.
