Chapter 33 - A Sniper from Kingpin

New York City—also known as the City of Sin.

Beneath its glittering surface lies an ocean of darkness.

And ruling that underworld like an emperor—was Kingpin.

Within the criminal world, his influence and power were even greater than what the president held over ordinary citizens.

Yet even a man like him had recently been provoked.

Until his organization successfully "transitioned" into legitimate business, the gang's income still relied heavily on illegal trades.

Almost every massage parlor and foot spa in the city—ninety-nine percent of them—were under Kingpin's control. The remaining one percent were the kind of newcomers too bold to fear death... and who usually vanished within a day.

Most of the young women working in those places weren't there by choice. Many were deceived, abducted, or coerced.

Not long ago, Kingpin had received disturbing news: a collection crew had gone missing while "collecting debts."

He didn't need to guess—the whole group was dead.

He questioned the police department; they denied involvement.

He questioned the locals; only then did he learn that the matter traced back to that recently famous man—Xu Dan.

A man who had gone bankrupt not long ago, and yet within a few months had risen to the top of the business world.

Given time, Xu Dan was destined to become a giant of global commerce.

And on this very day, his company had just launched a new game.

Kingpin had always looked down on such "virtual garbage." He didn't care what the outside world said about Antarctic Games. To him, all that praise was empty hype.

What he cared about now was how to destroy Xu Dan.

This was vengeance.

The underworld valued loyalty above all. Even if Kingpin often faked his "brotherhood" speeches just to keep his men united, he did understand one thing—revenge was a matter to be handled personally.

But this time, he had to be cautious. This wasn't something a few thugs could settle.

Killing a wealthy man required strategy. He not only wanted Xu Dan dead—he wanted to legally inherit everything the man owned.

That would turn Xu Dan's empire into a new money-printing machine for his organization.

Despite his massive build, Kingpin was anything but stupid. His mind was sharp, his planning meticulous.

"Corey, how's it going?"

"Boss…" Corey hesitated. "Honestly, I've hit a wall. I can't dig up anything more on him."

Kingpin's mountainous figure shifted closer, leaning on a cane—not because he was weak, but because that cane was a weapon.

He placed one heavy hand on Corey's shoulder. "Then throw away your useless toys. We move tonight—you're leading the charge."

Leading the charge.

Corey trembled. Everyone knew what that really meant: cannon fodder.

He'd been in the mob long enough to know—the ones at the front weren't the fiercest, just the first to die.

Xu Dan was destined to sit atop the corporate pyramid. There was no way a man like that didn't have powerful security. Cutting him down wouldn't be easy.

Corey thought quickly. "Boss, could I… borrow a few helicopters?"

Kingpin's expression never softened, his voice calm but heavy. "Borrow? There's no borrowing. Bring me that damned Xu Dan alive, and whatever you want—will be yours."

Corey's heart pounded.

Anything I want.

From someone else, that might've sounded like an empty promise. But when Kingpin said it—it was absolute.

What Corey truly wanted was Kingpin's throne itself… but that was just a fantasy. The last man who tried had been buried long ago, grass grown taller than a man.

Better to stay realistic.

He wanted money—and to disappear somewhere far away with that girl fifteen years younger than him.

"Yes, Boss! I'll move out right away!"

Kingpin nodded approvingly, patting Corey's shoulder once more. "Go. And good luck."

"Thank you, Boss!"

As Corey hurried out, Kingpin watched his back and let out a faint, cold smile.

Corey was forty now, long retired from frontline work, managing their online operations instead.

Years ago, he'd been a bankrupt banker—until Kingpin took him in.

Corey had repaid that kindness by building their web-loan scams, conning desperate people out of everything they had.

At first, the profits were huge—especially from those young, pretty victims. Money was secondary; control was the real prize.

But now, their database had been hacked. Every cent they had vanished.

That meant part of Kingpin's black-market empire had lost its ability to "regenerate blood."

And in the underworld, once the flow of fresh blood stops—decay follows fast.

Kingpin concluded that Corey bore responsibility, one way or another.

So—If he could bring back Xu Dan alive, he'd make up for his failure. If he couldn't—then he wouldn't need to come back at all.

Kingpin didn't keep the useless.

That same night—

Xu Dan drove home after dropping Skye off at her place, with Liwa dozing drunkenly in the passenger seat.

It was already half past eleven by the time they reached his seaside villa.

Warcraft had exploded in popularity that day. To celebrate, he'd had a few drinks with the team.

And indeed—now that his company's name had gone global, the game's first-day numbers were staggering.

In just six hours, 170 million downloads!

A terrifying statistic.

And Xu Dan's unique data tracking ensured those weren't bots—they were real players.

That meant within six hours alone, Warcraft had gained 170 million new users.

The Western hemisphere was asleep now—but when the Eastern hemisphere woke up, that number would skyrocket even more.

He couldn't even imagine what the data would look like by morning—or how high his system points would climb.

Parking the car, he glanced at Liwa—completely drunk, asleep against the window—and sighed helplessly.

He should've dropped her off at her apartment. Now he'd have to carry her all the way upstairs himself.

But just as he stepped out of the car and moved toward the passenger side—

His ears twitched.

From somewhere in the dark… he heard breathing.

The car was soundproof. It couldn't have come from Liwa.

Something was out there.
