Chapter 39 - Black Gold Technologies

"Oh? Are we different from other companies? Maybe that's exactly why The King of Fighters and Warcraft are unlike any other games out there."

Her tone was calm yet confident — so composed and dignified that even Xu Dan, sitting in his office watching the broadcast, couldn't help wanting to applaud Liva.

After her answer, the audience fell completely silent.

What she said made perfect sense — no one could find a word to argue back.

Other game companies? Their so-called "titles" were junk, and most of them even insisted on cluttering their games with developer name lists and pointless menus.

By contrast, Antarctica Games never had redundant, useless options in their interfaces — everything was streamlined.

And even better: all their games were free.

As long as you wanted to play, you could play.

Of course, there were optional premium features — players who could afford them could spend a little to support the game, and those who couldn't could still enjoy the full experience for free.

Completely voluntary.

In today's gaming industry, that was a breath of fresh air — a company with integrity!

A conscientious studio!

A conscientious team!

A conscientious boss!

At the mention of money, several reporters' eyes gleamed sharply.

"Ms. Liva, your company's King of Fighters has already reached sky-high agency fees abroad. How about Warcraft? What kind of numbers are you expecting for that title?"

Facing the question, Liva smiled faintly and sealed the reporter's curiosity with just two words:

"Classified."

"Huh? That's it? Aw, come on…" Some smaller reporters groaned in disappointment — they'd hoped for a headline-worthy figure to boost clicks.

"I'm guessing… over ten billion?" one muttered.

"Ten billion? No way. It's just a game — how could it be worth that much?"

"You idiot. Did you walk into the wrong press room today? Go interview Tony Stark, that egomaniac!"

When a spokesperson says the word classified, only fools keep pressing.

Apparently, there were quite a few fools in the audience.

Amid the rising chatter, Liva raised both hands gently, signaling for calm. Instantly, the room fell quiet again.

"If there are no more meaningful questions," she said coolly, "then that will be all for today."

Just then, a reporter sitting in the corner raised his hand.

"Beautiful lady," he said, "may I ask what your boss usually likes to do in his free time?"

Liva frowned slightly, glancing at the man.

With her eye for people, she could tell — either this reporter was new to the job, or he wasn't feeling well.

His posture was odd, too forced.

And that was his question? What Xu Dan liked to do in his spare time?

Obviously, she thought, he likes making love.

What, you want details?

Of course, that was personal, and she couldn't possibly say it aloud.

"Sorry," she replied politely, "that concerns our boss's privacy, so it's inconvenient for me to disclose."

"Then may I ask," the reporter pressed on, "what's your relationship with your boss? Lovers? Siblings?"

Liva's eyes flicked down to the name tag on his press pass — Black Gold Technologies.

A tech outlet… asking tabloid questions? Really?

She almost smirked.

Truthfully, she wanted to say she was Xu Dan's future wife — but Xu Dan had never given her any promises. She hadn't won him over yet, so she couldn't claim that aloud.

After thinking for a moment, she replied evenly, "We're just in a normal boss-employee relationship."

"Come on, miss," the reporter said mockingly. "A thousand people can have a thousand Hamlets, but somehow a thousand bosses and secretaries all give the same answer? I thought your company was supposed to be different?"

Liva's brow tightened — something about this line of questioning didn't feel right.

But in front of the public, she couldn't show irritation, nor could she spar with a provocateur. That was rule one for any spokesperson.

So she smiled lightly and said, "Well… maybe we're more like start-up partners? But please, don't quote me on that — if my boss finds out, he'll kill me!"

"Hahaha!"

"Heh-heh-heh!"

"Ho-ho-ha!"

The audience burst into laughter.

This was a press conference — reporters lived to dig out juicy details. No way would they let a single playful remark slide.

By tonight, the evening papers would be plastered with gossip headlines about the rising star company Antarctica Games and its mysterious CEO's "romantic rumors."

"Well then," Liva said, smiling, "since everyone's had a good time, we'll end here for today. See you next time."

She turned gracefully and walked off the stage, ignoring the reporters' desperate calls.

"Ms. Liva, please don't go—"

"Goddess Liva, forget business — can we just chat with you a bit longer?"

"Sorry, gentlemen," said one of the security guards, stepping forward. "The exit is that way."

Antarctica Games' security team was top-tier — the most expensive protection money could buy.

And worth every cent.

Their composure and professionalism were unmatched — even their phrasing carried warning.

'The exit is that way.'

In other words: keep pushing, and this area will no longer be safe.

That was their final warning.

The nosiest of the reporters froze mid-step, his face darkening as he watched Liva walk away.

A flicker of regret crossed his eyes.

If only she really was Xu Dan's girlfriend… that would've been the perfect story.

But unfortunately, there didn't seem to be any real relationship between them.

After leaving the conference hall, Liva immediately called for Skye.

By rank, she was technically Skye's superior — but in truth, the two were close friends.

Still, inside the company, rules were rules.

"Skye, look into this 'Black Gold Technologies' outlet," Liva said seriously.

Skye didn't ask why — she dropped what she was doing and began her search, using her own methods to trace information about the so-called media company.

Sure enough, the registry confirmed that Black Gold Technologies was real — at least on paper.

So the reporter's credentials weren't fake. The security team couldn't be blamed.

But while the company existed legally, anyone in the know could tell — it was just a shell, a front used for money laundering.

And what kind of people needed to launder money through fake media companies?

Obviously — criminal organizations.

And in New York, who was the biggest crime-funded mogul lately?

The first name that came to Skye's mind was the man behind that massive recent chase—

Wilson Fisk. The Kingpin.

"No need to guess," Skye said confidently. "That so-called media company? It's one of Kingpin's fronts."

Liva nodded slowly. She'd heard the name Kingpin before — though she didn't know much about him.

She pressed her earpiece and said firmly, "Security team, be advised: detain the male reporter from Black Gold Technologies."
