I had already cursed for what felt like hundreds of times before I finally stopped, and by then sleep was dragging at me so heavily that I barely kept my eyes open.
My head felt hot from the arguing I had been doing with myself, I kept turning from one side to the other like I was trying to shake something off my skin.
I was ready to give up on everything and let exhaustion pull me under, but that was when the door opened.
There was a knock, but it was the kind of knock that didn't wait for me to say anything. The handle turned almost at the same moment the knock sounded, like the person behind it didn't care whether I agreed to let them in or not. The door opened just enough for Lili to peek inside.
She didn't enter the room fully. She only pushed her head through the small opening, her eyes scanning the darkness.
It sounded like she had been pushed to deliver the message.
"If you're awake, come down for dinner."
