A man I recognized as one of the hotel security guards stepped closer, his voice firm. "Are you alright, miss?"
Adrian released my wrist, but his hand stayed on my arm as if he could still hold me in place. "Everything is fine. Go on your way. I'm just talking to my wife."
The guard's eyes didn't move to him. "I wasn't talking to you, sir. I was asking the woman if she's alright."
I opened my mouth, but nothing came out. My throat felt tight, and my chest wouldn't loosen. The guard took another step toward us. He was large and broad-shouldered, the kind of man who filled the space just by standing in it. Even Adrian seemed to stiffen.
"She's fine," Adrian snapped. "Mind your business."
The guard didn't flinch. He reached out and gripped Adrian's arm, stopping him from pulling me back again. "I said I wasn't talking to you."
