Adrian adjusted his tie as he sat in the meeting room, the long table separating the four of them like a line drawn in the sand. His lawyer sat beside him, rigid and unreadable, and across from them were Star and her lawyer. Walter. He hated the man already.
He still couldn't believe any of this was happening.
On one hand, he didn't want to be with Star anymore. He had made that clear in every possible way. But on the other hand, the fact that she was actually going through with the divorce made something burn inside him. She was never supposed to leave. She was never supposed to be the one who walked away.
He stared at her, waiting for her to look back, but she kept her gaze lowered. She didn't fidget. She didn't blush. Her hands rested calmly on the table. There was none of the nervousness she used to carry around him. All those times when a single smile from him made her face turn red — now she wouldn't even look at him.
Everything about this situation pissed him off.
