Travis's head swirled; he felt dizzy, his strength waning by the minute. His breathing came in short gasps as his eyes widened at the monstrous creature before him — rope-like in form, with jagged teeth, a slimy body, and eyes that burned with savage intent.
It howled at Travis, drooling hungrily at the scent of his blood.
Derek instantly pushed himself up, his instincts flaring. He was ready to defend Travis at all costs. The cubs hid behind him, trembling. Travis swayed on his feet and collapsed straight into Derek's arms.
"Travis! Travis, answer me!" Derek's voice broke as he shook his mate's body, tapping his face repeatedly — but there was no response. Travis's breathing grew shallower with every second.
Not caring about the chaos rising around them, Derek tried to focus, but the monsters lunged again — only to be stopped by the dark aura that suddenly filled the scene.
