After much thought, Ethan finally sent Tom a text.
"No need to wake her, but have one of your men move a little closer, just in case she needs help. But don't disturb her."
Afterwards he put his phone and took a deep breath. A bigger task awaited him, the task of explaining to Axiel where his mom was and why she wasn't home. He felt guilty that he needed to lie to his son, but it was for the best.
Ethan then turned to his son, who was already watching him with wide, worried eyes.
"Hey buddy," Ethan said gently. "I just texted your mom. She said she'll be home later than expected, but she wants us to have dinner together, then I'll take you to bed. She'll have breakfast with you in the morning. Deal?"
Axiel frowned. "I don't want dinner. I will wait for her we eat together."
Ethan smiled, feeling a little bit defeated. "You can, but only if we have a snack while we wait. Why don't you pick something for us to do together?"
