Maya's POV
I wake up to my phone ringing at six in the morning.
It's Ethan's lawyer calling. Her voice is urgent.
"Maya, James filed additional paperwork overnight. He's requesting an emergency hearing in two days instead of three weeks."
I sit up in bed, my heart pounding. "Two days? How is that legal?"
"He's claiming you're a flight risk. That you might leave the country to avoid the custody battle." The lawyer sounds worried. "He has a judge who owes him favors. This is moving faster than I expected."
"What do I do?"
"Get to my office immediately. We need to prepare your defense. Now."
I hang up and rush to get dressed. My hands shake so badly I can barely button my shirt.
Ethan knocks on my door. "I heard. My driver is ready downstairs."
At the lawyer's office, reality hits me like a truck.
"James has built an impressive case," the lawyer says, spreading documents across her desk. "He's compiled evidence of every unstable moment in your life over the past few months."
