Chapter 20 - Hide and Seek

Hello everyone! Welcome to the In-House Improv Game Roster!

It's me again, your friendly neighborhood Narrator, and today I'll be your host!

With a wonderful weather of pure depression, we're set for what will be an interesting set of events, don't you think so?

I'm personally looking forward to seeing how the author drags out the most stupid set of games for a good amount of chapters so that we can be mind-fucked into thinking that this web novel is finally getting the slice of life and comedy genres that it absolutely does not deserve!

But anyway, enough about our incompetent procastinator! Let's head to the games!

Game One: Hide and Seek.

Liohime was up first in a best of three. Whoever could find the other in five minutes wins.

If they both could find each other in less than five minutes, the game was tied and must be repeated.

The seeker must count to thirty before looking for the hider.

No tag-outs were included. If the seeker was able to see the hider, they must declare the exact place of where they are at.

Neither of them could run and hide outside of the house, and they wouldn't want to anyway because of the pouring rain.

With the rules now set, the young man who remained in the house covered his eyes with both hands at the entrance to the front door and smiled.

"Get ready to hide now, Shihon. One…two…three…"

And so it began. In a not so spacious house of two lots, it was up to the beautiful Magical Beast Girl to pick her hiding spot meticulously.

Okay, I gotta be quick. Where do I hide? she pondered, darting into various rooms and scanning the area.

The bathroom had no good spots. She had thought about hiding in the notably large drawers underneath the sink, but it seemed like an easy spot to be discovered.

Aiming to take this game seriously, she was going to ensure that she won no matter what.

Under the bed? No.

Behind the television? Nope.

In the closet?

She took almost five seconds to make a choice. Time was running out fast.

Then, a lightbulb went off in her head.

Over here!

And just three seconds later, Liohime Kitagami had finished counting, and turned around to meet the unnatural silence that plagued the room.

"Thirty! Ready or not, here I come!"

Exhaling deeply, he slowly moved forward, with his attentive ears trying to pick up the faintest of sounds.

Being able to pick up sounds faster than the average person due to the vast experience at his work, even a small creak would have been heard if he was completely quiet and focused.

And sure enough, that creak did come from the bathroom door.

Sprinting over to it, he swung the door open with a 'Aha!"

--He was met with nothing, and he blinked.

Oh….did I hear wrong?

He opened the two large drawers under the sink. A person would be able to fit in there, although they would find themselves in a very uncomfortable position.

However, he again did not find anyone. Still, he did not fret just yet.

One minute had passed, and as Liohime looked in the bathroom mirror, he convinced himself that he would find her before those five minutes were up.

Though, as soon as he turned to head out of that room…

".....Hey, that was quick. Found you."

"-HK!!"

He stared at the opened wooden door and smirked.

"Hiding in the space behind the door as soon as I opened it, expecting me to soon leave and close it, leaving you safe. Not bad, Shihon."

She slowly pushed the door to exit from the small gap and frowned.

"How did you even…"

"Find you? You're right, even at a tight angle, I can't see you behind the door. Can't forget about the wonders of having a mirror though."

"S-Shit."

He was able to see my pitiful self hiding behind the door from the edge of the mirror!

Liohime's grin did not fade. "That's one down. Now that you will be the seeker, if you can't find me within five minutes, I will win the best of three!"

Shihon cursed under her breath, but her determination did not waver.

"That's fine! I know my Master better than anyone else! I'll find you in a heartbeat!"

Press x to doubt.

Liohime had played these games before…in the real world as part of the Shinigami Soldiers.

Thus, his ego was now through the roof as he prepared to apply his 'Shadow Thief' alias right here and now.

"Twenty-eight…twenty-nine…thirty! Conceal your fear, for Shihon's here!"

Shihon had finished counting, and as she opened her eyes, they were immediately met with overwhelming darkness.

"...So that's how you wanna play, huh? Alright then."

All of the lights in the house had been turned off in less than thirty seconds, and Shihon decided not to turn them back on, accepting the interesting challenge.

"Let's play it your way, Master."

She immediately burst into the bedroom with a flash, inspecting every corner of the room and checking every spot where she thought he could be hiding.

After confirming that his presence was not there, she slowly moved onto the bathroom, the washing room, and then entered the kitchen and dining room.

The only suspicious location there was probably the dishwasher and inside the cabinet up above, but she was pretty much convinced that Liohime could never fit in there, let alone decide to hide there for five minutes, so she skipped them while still listening attentively for any sounds.

The last place was…

The living room.

And somehow, despite searching for three minutes, there was no hint that showed that another person existed in the house.

Panicking, she started to recheck the areas that she had once looked at, and even decided to search in near-impossible hiding places like the dishwasher and oven, knowing how stupid she was looking while searching in those places.

Still, there was nothing, and in about forty seconds, time would be up.

Gritting her teeth, Shihon clenched her fists, expecting to lose two games in the best of three.

However, she let out a sly expression as she noticed Liohime's phone on the couch.

Picking it up and unlocking it due to her successfully spying on him unlocking it in the past, unblocked a certain number and rang it on speaker mode.

Fifteen seconds, with the ringing continuing and no sudden noise being heard.

She bit the bottom of her lip, holding her breath and entering the bedroom as it all came down to this.

Suddenly with nine seconds remaining…

"Hi, I'm Tisha Marsey! You have reached my voicemail box! Please leave a message!"

…And as soon as that voice spoke, a sudden sound from on top of the closet was heard.

She grinned from ear to ear and hung up as a head poked out from under a black cloth that covered and disguised the figure.

"FOUND YAA!!!"

"YOU CHEATERRRR!!!"

"EEK!!"

Liohime leaped from that height and almost pummeled her with his own body into the bedframe.

Unfortunately for Shihon, despite her blocking out her ears from Liohime's complaints of an invalid result, she did all of that effort just for him to decide to accept it reluctantly and then find her in under one minute in the third and final game.

Her hiding place?

The exact same location as her first spot.
