Chapter 10 - 1x10: The Weight of the Uniform

She made her way down the stairs to the dungeon. She took slow, deliberate steps as she braced herself to see who the queen had ordered her to check on.

The lighting quickly changed when she exited the bright topside of the castle. The dungeon below was dark, the lighting barely leaving you with anything but your own thoughts.

Outside, Remy, Aatos and Althea finally arrived at the village. Aatos went straight in, but before Remy entered, Althea stopped them by placing a hand on Remy's shoulder.

"It's better that I don't go in. They all know me as the weird forest woman with ''unnatural'' healing powers. Especially the queen. She wants to get rid of me. They think fire is the only thing we can bend and use as a weapon, but their knowledge is lacking," Althea said, her smile fading ever so slightly.

Remy nodded and went in with Aatos. They both looked around. Hexa was not anywhere they could see. Soon, the two left and went back to Althea.

She understood quickly that Hexa wasn't found and the three of them went back to the forest.

At the same time, Maya arrived at Blacklight Prison. Making her way past various dimly lit cells, trying to go around them as far as possible.

When she arrived to cell 086, her heart sank when she saw who was inside; Hexa. Her eyes narrowed, the opposite of what she was feeling right now. She couldn't show her true emotions now. Not even her eyes could betray her.

Maya stepped right up infront of the cell, studying the girl behind the bars. Why would Hexa want to commit such crimes?

Hexa leaned close to the bars of the cell when she noticed Maya. Her lips curled into a smirk as she spoke.

"Looks like my favorite cop decided to pay me a visit," Hexa said.

"Don't get me started on that," Maya spat.

"Soo.. Are you here to get me out of here, firefly?" Hexa said, staring up with Maya with slightly with pleading eyes.

"No. I'm not the anchor keeping your boat at the dock—I'm the knife that cuts the anchor rope," Maya responded coldly.

"What?" Hexa asked.

"Traitor. I shouldn't have trusted an outsider like you. What even posessed you into wanting to steal the damn Nullfire? Are you a damn moth that is so drawn to a flame it just had to steal it to itsself?" Maya said, her hurt evident in her voice.

"Listen up, firefly. I didn't mean to," Hexa said, her voice soft.

"Like hell you didn't. You're a spark that only knows how to burn the hand that catches you. You break everything you touch, Hexa—including me," Maya spoke quietly, tearing up. "Maybe this place fits you. Dark, silent, locked. At least here you can't ruin anything else," she continued.

"No, that can't be.. You're just saying that.. We had something special and you know it," Hexa said. Her eyebrows were close together, her eyes slightly widened, her nose a little scrunched and her lips quivering a bit.

"Hexa… if things were different—" She spoke softly before cutting herself off and walking out of the cell. She was torn. Tears filled her eyes as she made of way out of the dungeon.

"Maya, wait!" Hexa shouted desperately as Maya walked away, only for the screams to be ignored by her, leaving her to cry alone in the dark cell.

Hexa's eyes filled with tears. She sobbed, but her vision blurring, before went black again, but time instead of white outlines, they were red. She left like someone touched her shoulder, but when she turned her head to the direction, no one was there.

Then she heard a voice. It sounded completely new to Hexa, but strangely familiar at the same time.

"Dead," it said. A single word that made so much sense at the same time with not telling anything.

Maya walked outside. This wasn't right. She cared about Hexa so much.. But she needs to make her choise in peace.
