Ling Yue grabbed the hem of his robe and shakily walked towards the screen. Beads of sweat trailed down his face, and he gulped visibly until he reached the screen.
There was a bed just like the rest, but instead of women, two men were wearing red robes, high collared, sleeves long enough to swallow their hands, and hair twisted into identical knots at the nape, pinned with plain wooden sticks.
There were no expressions on their faces, which just made Ling Yue shake in fear more. One held a folded bundle of clothes to his chest while the other stood beside a lacquered tray on a low stool.
The tray contained a jade disk the size of a teacup saucer, a small crystal vial of clear oil, a silver rod no thicker than a chopstick, and a tiny crystal orb that pulsed faintly as if it were breathing.
"Disrobe," one of the men said, his voice flat as if he had said those words a thousand times.
