Chapter 17 - ̶I̶n̶ sufferable...

Flaytus arrived at the Byzantinian barracks--His eyes steady with command.

The men dropped their work as they then stood in rows--Meanwhile in the far back-- Slav--Tied his horse, his eyebrows furrowed as he watched the others seeming to walk away from their duties. He then continued tying his horse-- "Well, Aristos wouldn't be happy " he murmured under this breath. Just then--A tap fell on his shoulders--He glanced up, it was a Justinian--A fellow soldier. His eyebrows were jointed as he then asked--What are you doing? his grip tightened as if to caution him--Master Flaytus have come, don't make haste, come one. Slav's face slightly contorted as he then walked towards to one of the rows. Finally, he stood--Though further in the back--He could still make out the piercing hazel gaze of Flaytus among the dusty air. he glared at him as he began to continue his talk---Flaytus made his voice loud and clear--"HEAR, OH YOU! WE WILL BE HAVING A CAMPAIGHN (War) AS THAT'S THE EMPERORS' COMMAND! he continued, voice just a little lower this time, we will be marching down on Inner Mongolia--As the current khan (ruler) have rejected our peace agreement and chose war"

A sharp silence rippled through the air--"War" "Destruction" it was the same thing--Just worded different. The men stared at each other--Whispering. Flaytus's eyes darted to them--Then, they looked at him back--A man from within, raised his arms: LONG LIVE THE EMPEROR!

His voice created a ripple effect as others began to chant the same--"War" Slav's heart raced as his gripped on the back of his sword tight-- MAMA! the image of his burned house--And how hot the bits of his mother's cloth felt--his breath hitched--M-Ma? his legs gave up as his palm hit the ground--Though none stopped--They just kept their chants going on.

Meanwhile--Admits the chaos Marcus gaze directed to him--His eyebrows furrowed as he stepped in--then stopped himself before he could reach out to him. Why are you like this Slav...? his jaw clenched as he gazed at him--He then sighed turning his attention to the front.

-----

The sun had given up--As the field was filled with armors--lying flat on the ground, as men huddled over in small corners. some sat under the shades of the trees--And some, their body was present--Though their mind wasn't.

Slav sat across from Flatus--Though far away--He could still see his hazel glare form 20 yards away. He then rested his sword on the ground--Pressing his back against the hard bark--His gaze traveled through the pink hue of the evening sky--At the majestic, lush clouds. He closed his eyes as if to breathe it in.

Then--A cold sensation ran through his neck--As his eyes fluttered opened--It was a knife--Pressed close to the nape of his neck--As he stared at it, his eyes widened in disbelief--His breath hitching--As he then felt a pair of arms gripping his back--keeping him in place as his arms reached him--Slav, tried desperately, he clawed at the strangers arms--His finger nails digging deep in his arms--Then, Ouch! the stranger let go off him. as he stepped back, clutching his arms--He recognized that voice--Marcus...

Slav turned--His eyebrows jointed, jaw clenched--What is it with you? he asked, voice dipping low, dangerous as he then stepped closer to him.

Marcus stared at him--then at his clawed palm--He then grinned, "had to check" he murmured, handing his sword at him--Slav then reached out his arm to take it--And as soon as their hands brushed--He swiftly pinned him to the tree, voice sizzling with rage--"Don't dare come across me again"

Marcus stared at him--His eyes dazed, still with that grin on his face--Sure buddy--But--He leaned in voice dancing with amusement--Maybe you should have trained better--He murmured once again.

Slav stared at him in mock surprise--As he then loosened his grip on him--He wasn't wrong, maybe he should have payed attention and followed the rules.

Maybe...
