Chapter 45 - Serpent-like eyes

The imperial palace seemed to be bare as only the soft rustle of the grass from outside was imminent.

Pov of Eleanor: My eyes then fluttered opened as I gazed up at the mosaic roof of the room--I rubbed eyes then sat up. My body, beyond sore from last night.

My hair now was a tangled mess--I got on my foot and quickly dressed up. Wearing a simple-yet elegant sapphire robe.

I then went to the door--My heart thudding rhythmically--I was in the imperial palace--The palace of the emperor.

"I'm here as a maid" I murmured to myself as if to convince myself. The past few months--Master Flaytus had been nothing but merciful.

Now, my time to repay him--Even though I'm beyond in debt. My eyes fell to the floor--My lips curled in a natural pout.

"So is he"

my eyes widened as a thought passed on my mind. My eyebrows furrowed as I slightly gritted my lips as if to back the thoughts

--Now walking on the grand hall--My eyes darted up and down, back and forth--The grand hall was indeed grand

--The corners were decorated with petit flowers--The roofs were coated in magnificent mosaic paintings--They were of many scholars and saints. My eyes glinted as I then continued to make my way.

Just then--I entered the main hallway--There, servants worked--Their fingers moved with precision, some giggled and conversed to one another.

In the middle was an elderly man--He seemed to be the leader--He ordered and moved around with years of experience--His eyes scanned through the area, feet moving as if he had counted the marbles on the floors.

Just then--His gaze fell to me, his hand then fell to his waist, clutching on it--"Hey! girl! get in here!

My eyes slightly widened as I then started walking--My hands were to my sides, my head low as I then felt the pressing gaze of the other servants.

Then finally I stood Infront of him. My head low the entire time.

The man then looked at me--"What is you name?" he questioned. My lips were unmoving at first--Though I found the courage and muttered my name. Ah huh... the man hummed--You Latin is decent, where did you come from?

My eyes then fell to the floor, my hands clenched--R-Ruth...my voice trailed off. The man's brows furrowed, Ruth...?have not heard of it

I nodded, forcing a small smile--He then ushered me to work--Handing a pile of clothes. I glanced at it then at him--I then turned at once.

The day rolled by as I dusted of the grand windows of the moon-kissed balcony of the palace--My eyes darted outside the night air--My veil then fluttered rapidly against the air--As the cold air seeped in through my cloth.

"Peace has yet to come"

a thought passed my mind as I then watched the moon hid behind the clouds--The place felt serene as my hand clutched the marble railing of the balcony.

It will...? I murmured half questioning myself.

It will, will it not...?
