'It doesn't taste bad if I eat raw meat underwater. Maybe the adaptation affected my taste buds too.' Silva thought to himself as he chewed on some raw flesh in his fishman form. It had been three days since his first encounter with a mage. By now, he had killed five. A group of four mages had come by yesterday.
Silva had swam to shore to try communicating with them but he ended up taking a fireball to the face. The experience wasn't as bad as it could have gone since he just immersed himself in the knee deep water. Frisbee made short work of them. Silva then spent the rest of the day underwater, sleeping.
At night, he left the water and hunted for small mammals in his night form. His night vision and bat like ears would have made him the perfect nocturnal hunter if he didn't depend on his domain. He stalked through the forest like a trained assassin. Frisbee killed every warm blooded creature that entered the domain.
Silva had gotten more used to his domain. He could detect the minute fluctuations like the breathing of creatures within its range. The full moon was high in the sky and the forest was silent. Silva's hunt had come to an end and he walked back to the lake. For the first time since the invasion began, Silva felt affected by the cool breeze. The swimming trunks he wore didn't provide any protection against the elements.
There were times in the city when he wanted to change outfits but he didn't know how humanoid adaptation would affect his body. Silva didn't want his clothes to affect his adaptation at a critical moment. Beams of moonlight lit up the forest as Silva approached the lake. He stopped. His domain had detected the strongest fluctuations he had ever come across.
He couldn't even tell if it was one person or a whole team since the violent fluctuations formed a small dome. Silva was cautious as he tried to find a way back into the lake while avoiding the source of the fluctuations. He was close to the lake but now faced a new problem. The clean crabs had cleared the surrounding areas of the lake meaning that he had to cross a stretch of about thirty meters of open ground.
Silva looked at the source of the fluctuations and saw a man that looked to be in his late thirties. The man was dressed in this world's equivalent to a business suit. The design looked the same but there were tiny glowing patterns that moved as though alive.
'This guy is using magic circles and doesn't have a staff or any item to channel his spell. If I remember correctly, he must be a Mage. The other guys had staffs and used what I assume to be runes so they should be Runemancers. There were three magical classes for humans. The only one I haven't met is a Sorcerer. ' Silva, having confirmed that he was only faced by one opponent, decided to use a sneak attack to end it.
He sneaked towards the mage who was busy drawings glowing patterns in the air. Silva assumed the patterns to be a spell and decided to kill the mage before it could activate. Frisbee flew out of the inventory as soon as Silva's domain was close to the mage. A loud clang resounded as Frisbee hit an invisible barrier.
The mage resisted the urge to react to Silva in order to complete the spell. Silva stored away Frisbee, planning on summoning it within the mage's barrier when he saw a bright flash strike the space between them. The booming thunder that came after the lightning strike was deafening. Silva felt his organs tremble from the violent vibrations.
Looking at the sky, Silva was in shock. He could see a gigantic net made entirely out of lightning bolts forming in the cloudless sky. His domain didn't warn him since the spell was taking shape a great distance outside of its range. Silva switched his gaze back to the mage who had just completed another spell.
Silva felt familiar fluctuations coming from the new spell when a rift opened in space. The rift was similar to how Silva's inventory used to open. A large grosaw of dogs that looked eerily similar to German Shepherds shot out of the pitch black rift. Soon, a whole pack of about a dozen surrounded Silva. He summoned Frisbee, planning on killing all of the dogs when another bolt of lightning struck down. The bolt was aiming for Frisbee and ended up striking both the blade and the dog it was slicing through.
The other dogs were startled by the effect and Silva was there to make them regret it. He pounced at the closest dog, a machete in his right hand and a kitchen knife in his left. The blade missed the dog's head and struck it's back but it didn't matter. Silva had been killing monsters for the past few days and the strength increase was currently beyond what a normal human was capable of.
The result, the dog didn't stand a chance. The strike shattered it's spine and dug into its chest. Another dog tried to bite Silva from behind but ended up with a mouthful of webs from Silva's inventory. Silva struck behind him, the knife in his hand stabbing into the dog's chest. Frisbee also moved but it didn't aim for any of the dogs. It hovered a few feet above Silva's head. A bolt of lightning struck at Silva but ended up striking the more conductive blade.
Silva was like a reaper. The swings of his machete were simple and heavy but each one struck its target. The knives that appeared in his hand would stab and disable his foes, weakening them enough to be unable to resist the machete. The bolts of lightning that continuously tried to hit him were stopped by Frisbee that now followed him like a halo.
Silva bolted towards the lake, breaking the encirclement of the pack of dogs. He leapt and dove into the water, leaving Frisbee hovering above the lake, preventing the lighting from hitting the lake. The hounds were unable to follow him down here which allowed him to catch his breath. He was about to go back up when he felt fluctuations in the water.
The fluctuations moved straight towards him, changing directions and tracking him down when he tried to dodge. Silva dove deeper into the lake to try and escape the range of the fluctuations but they were relentless. He glanced behind him to check whether he could withstand the spell that chased him. The thing he saw made his spine tingle. The water was instantly freezing wherever the fluctuations passed.
'Nope.' Silva dove deep, swimming toward the blue portal like a torpedo. He called Frisbee back and stored it his domain. Silva could feel the freezing spell drawing closer. He knew that it would reach him before he made it to the portal. In desperation, he stored away all the water around the spell. A vacuum was created and the surrounding water rushed to fill it.
'It worked. The vacuum delayed the spell. 'Silva thought as he swam faster, pushing the swimming capabilities of his adaptation to their limits. He entered the blue portal and the world warped around him. The world flipped and the feeling of falling took over. Everything turned blue. Silva felt like he was being spun at high speed but there was no dizziness. Everything came to a stop.
Silva noticed two things immediately. First, he was back on earth since he was surrounded by murderous clean crabs. Second, the killing intent that felt suffocating before was so damn weak now. Frisbee came out of the inventory, it's spinning blade forming a tiny underwater vortex. Silva swam towards the surface, Frisbee moved around him like a protective halo. Any crab that tried to get close to Silva met it's end.
'This is the feeling.' Silva thought to himself as he breached the surface. 'I'm getting stronger with each kill. It didn't happen when I killed those dogs so I'm guessing that they don't count. I really should get out of the city and maybe even find other people. I really need to stop talking to myself, I might become crazy.'
Silva swam towards the exit of the city with Frisbee gliding underwater, killing anything that moved. He finally reached the outskirts of the city where the water was shallow and looked like actual floodwater. Leaving the water, Silva used anything that poked above the water surface as stepping stones. He finally left the flooded area and moved on dry land but he didn't slow down.
Silva sprinted like a madman, his current speed putting professional sprinters to shame. He didn't have to worry about getting tired since Frisbee kept replenishing his energy by killing anything regardless of size. 'I forgot about the nukes. I gotta leave the city before it's too late.'
His bare feet got cuts and blisters but Silva just kept running.
