Chapter 30 - Chapter 28: Mischief (Part 1)

The doorbell rang, and Lin Wan jumped up from her chair. Slipping on her slippers, she went to the door. Through the video feed, she saw a delivery worker in a blue uniform. She opened the door, and a dark-skinned young man holding a receipt asked, "Are you Miss Lin Wan? This is the refrigerator you bought from our mall..."

Lin Wan took the receipt and was about to sign it when the young man hesitated and reminded her, "Don't you want to check it first?"

"No need," Lin Wan said, not even lifting her head as she quickly wrote her name.

"Uh, our company has a policy that customers must inspect the goods first. Otherwise, if there's a problem later..." he began.

Lin Wan swiftly put the pen away, shoved the receipt into his hands, and said, "Don't worry. If there's a problem, I won't bother you guys."

"Huh?" The young man was taken aback, never having encountered such an easy-going customer. Could she be out of her mind? She doesn't look like it... Behind him, the two movers urged him to hurry up—there was another stop to make.

Lin Wan shrugged and added, "Yeah, I don't mind, so why should you?"

Sweating, the young man thought, Whatever, it's not like I'm paying. This area is full of rich people. If they want to throw money around, let them. Even if they just rip up the money and scatter it like confetti, it's none of my business. I can always just pick it up later.

The refrigerator was brought in. Lin Wan pointed to the center of the living room and said, "Put it here."

The three men stood stunned. The young man was about to speak again when Lin Wan waved him off impatiently, "Just put it down. I'm busy." And so, the massive appliance stood in the middle of the living room.

As the three men left, they muttered to each other, "Rich people are really hard to understand. If everyone was like this, it would save us so much hassle, but oh well."

Lin Wan returned to her room and resumed shopping online, downloading things as usual.

That evening, when Chen Jin returned to the apartment, he was taken aback as soon as he walked in. The living room was completely packed with huge corrugated cardboard boxes—tall ones, short ones, long ones—almost like a modern-day Stonehenge. Upon closer inspection, there were refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, desktop computers, and even a dishwasher... Through the maze of boxes, he saw that woman sprawled casually on the couch, watching some show on TV, laughing foolishly.

If he hadn't seen Lin Wan, he would've thought he'd walked into the wrong apartment. His nose was about to curl from irritation. He navigated through the obstacles, standing in front of her with a black face and asked, "What's going on?"

Lin Wan looked up, completely unfazed, and replied, "Oh, I just bought some things."

Chen Jin's teeth ground together in fury. He pointed at the room full of large items and asked, "This is 'some things'?"

Without lifting her gaze, Lin Wan stared at the variety show on TV and mumbled a half-hearted "Mm."

Chen Jin's frustration only grew when he saw her indifference. He pointed at her nose and demanded, "Lin Wan, what the hell do you think you're doing?"

Lin Wan looked at him as though she couldn't understand why he was so angry, innocently replying, "Didn't you say the money in the card was mine to spend however I want?"

Chen Jin was livid, "So, you went and bought all this crap? What's next, planning to buy an atomic bomb and blow this place up?"

Lin Wan looked as if she'd been startled by those three words. She widened her eyes, then muttered something softly. Chen Jin couldn't hear her, growing impatient. "What did you say?"

"Ran out of money."

Chen Jin choked on his anger, nearly suffocating himself. He jabbed his finger at Lin Wan's forehead again and again, seething, "Alright, you've got guts." Turning around, he looked at the mess of items in the room, his frustration mounting. He pulled out his phone and called his secretary, "Get a truck over here now, and move these things out of the apartment."

The secretary, still clueless, asked, "Right now?"

"Yes, right now. Immediately."

He hung up and saw Lin Wan about to leave. He shouted, "Stop!"

Lin Wan halted, and he asked, "Where are you going?"

"To sleep."

He strode over to her, standing in front of her, and coldly said, "You're going to leave this mess and go to sleep?"

Lin Wan lowered her head, muttering, "Didn't you send someone to take care of it?"

Chen Jin's breathing became heavy. This woman was truly pushing him to the brink. He had come home after a long day, only to be greeted by this chaos. There wasn't even a place for him to sit. This was what truly drove him mad. Damn, it's all stuck in my throat.

What was the highest form of anger? Chen Jin had never known, because no one had ever dared to challenge his limits. But now, he felt like he was almost there, and then... then, he was utterly enraged. He grabbed Lin Wan's hand and walked her to a cardboard box that was about the same height as him. With a tone as though he were chatting, he said, "Look at what you've bought. Oh, a refrigerator, and it's a Siemens! A world-renowned brand with top-notch cooling. How about we give it a try?"

Lin Wan felt a chill run down her spine from his sarcastic tone. When she heard him suggest "trying it," she knew it wasn't good. Sure enough, he continued, "The capacity should be enough for you."

He then pulled her aside, clicking his tongue, "What's this? A washing machine? Haier's not bad either. How about I toss you in there and stir things up? Let's see how good it is at cleaning."

Suddenly, he turned to her and asked, "Did you buy a vacuum cleaner?"

Lin Wan, confused, shook her head. Chen Jin sighed as if regretful and muttered, "Why didn't you buy one? With a head like yours, it could use a good suck occasionally."
