Lin Wan felt completely confused. What did a vacuum cleaner have to do with being insane? As she looked at the man beside her, she suddenly felt a sense of dread. His words, one after another, seemed a little insane. She glanced up, only to see him glaring at the refrigerator with intense anger, his eyes burning as though he wanted to burn a hole through the cardboard box.
A chill ran down her spine. She suddenly recalled his words about freezing her in the refrigerator, and the thought made her skin crawl. With him looking so angry, she couldn't help but think that he might actually do it. What was she thinking? Coming up with such a ridiculous idea just to annoy him—her plan didn't even work as intended and ended up only enraging him. She realized she had truly lost it and was starting to feel scared. His grip on her hand was tight, and no matter how much she tried to pull it back, it only tightened further.
Chen Jin suddenly turned to face her, his gaze so hot it felt like a red-hot iron. It made her heart race and her face felt like it was being scorched.
Chen Jin glared at her, then at the refrigerator, looking even more frustrated. Lin Wan's mind suddenly clicked. Maybe the packaging was just too tight, and they couldn't open it immediately. She suddenly remembered that old joke—how many steps does it take to fit an elephant into a refrigerator? She was so nervous that the ridiculous thought escaped her mouth in a burst of uncontrollable laughter.
Immediately, the man beside her whipped his head around, his gaze still fiery.
Lin Wan couldn't help but laugh because she realized that today, not only had she enraged Chen Jin, but she had done so in a new and spectacular way. Just look at his expression when he returned, the absurd things he said, and now, seeing him helpless in front of a giant cardboard box—a man who was usually authoritative, now acting like a helpless child. He had really lost his mind.
At that moment, she finally couldn't contain her laughter anymore. She bent over in a fit of giggles, thinking it was the biggest joke—this man who could command the winds and rain, who controlled everything, had been made a fool of by her. Wasn't that just the funniest thing?
Chen Jin stared at her as she laughed uncontrollably, clutching her stomach, gasping for air. His face darkened. His teeth clenched as he growled, "Lin Wan, are you out of your mind?"
Lin Wan looked up at him, tears in her eyes from laughing so hard. She pointed at the furious man and joked, "Yeah, I'm crazy, and you're an idiot. Hehehe."
The TV was still playing, and at that moment, the silly host began laughing hysterically, accompanied by Lin Wan's own giggles. The combination of the giant cardboard boxes in the living room only made the situation seem more absurd. The sarcasm in the air was thick. Who was the object of ridicule? Of course, Chen Jin didn't want to admit it. But Lin Wan, this dead woman, kept laughing at him, as though she hadn't laughed in generations. His temples began to throb.
Chen Jin's eyes sharpened, and he cursed under his breath, "Crazy woman." Then, with one swift motion, he pushed her against the refrigerator, kissing her violently on the lips.
Lin Wan turned her face to avoid him, sneering, "If I'm crazy, it's you who made me this way."
Chen Jin didn't respond, his resolve firm as he continued to kiss her, or perhaps to shut her mouth. Lin Wan couldn't avoid him this time, and he finally succeeded. It wasn't a kiss, but a brutal assault. She remembered how Wang Xiao's kisses used to feel—gentle, lingering, like eating chocolate—sweet and soft. Afterward, it would leave a lasting taste in her mouth.
But now, thinking of Wang Xiao, her heart ached again. She felt like she was beyond repair, only able to numb herself with work and her ongoing struggle with someone. But after the numbness wore off, the pain returned tenfold.
Suddenly, a loud crash startled them both. Their bodies swayed from the shock. The refrigerator had fallen over, luckily propped up by the washing machine behind it. If not for that, they might have been scared to death, and the people downstairs definitely would have been. As they were still tangled up, their lips locked, Chen Jin blinked in surprise before releasing her and standing up, breathing heavily.
He pulled Lin Wan to her feet, dragging her a few steps and then shoving her against the wall. Lin Wan's head slammed against the wall, a sharp pain shooting through her spine. She sighed in helplessness. Here we go again—he's lost his mind again.
Chen Jin inhaled sharply, then took another deep breath. "You wanted to sleep, right? Let's go ahead and do it now," he growled as he reached to pull her sleeping pants off. Lin Wan was trapped between his body and the wall, unable to breathe properly, completely powerless to resist. She felt like a butterfly pinned to the wall, helpless.
Chen Jin undid her pants and then started pulling at the zipper of his own pants, muttering, I've figured you out. You're really trying to kill yourself, aren't you? It's no fun to die, but I'll make you wish you were alive again.
Lin Wan blinked her dry eyes, feeling weak. No matter how much chaos she created, in the end, it always led to the same conclusion: physical entanglement. It was all so pointless.
Just as Chen Jin was about to finish, there was another chilling, horrifying laugh that shook the air. It sounded more terrifying than the ringing of a death bell, causing Chen Jin to flinch and immediately stop. The attack was halted, and Lin Wan, already exhausted, was nearly snapped back to reality by the sound. The terror coursing through her made her nerves feel like they might snap. They both stared at each other in confusion, realizing the sound wasn't coming from the TV. Lin Wan's face turned as pale as the wallpaper behind her.
Chen Jin's authoritarian instinct kicked in as he softly reassured her, "Don't worry."
Lin Wan nodded weakly.
The eerie sound continued, relentless. Chen Jin turned to watch the TV, only to find that it was just an ad for sanitary pads. Although it could be considered somewhat bloody, it didn't match the strange, eerie tone they had just heard. He listened closely and realized the sound was coming from outside the door...
Lin Wan's body trembled, and instinctively, Chen Jin pulled her closer, gently stroking her back. She whispered faintly, "It might be the doorbell."
"What?"
"The doorbell," Lin Wan whispered, biting her lip, "I just changed it."
