Chapter 29 - The Second Round of Testing

Seeing that the awkward incident caused by Oscar's sausages had finally passed, and that Oscar had even received an invitation from the Seven Treasures Glazed Tile Clan, Dai Mubai was genuinely happy for his good brother. He no longer dared to look at Ning Rongrong with those earlier eyes, since he now had his own target he was determined to pursue — and he truly didn't wish to offend the little princess of the Seven Treasures Glazed Tile Clan.

Dai Mubai laughed and said, "Our place is called the Monster Academy — naturally, the Martial Souls here are all sorts of strange and unique. However, this guy Oscar is considered one of the most peculiar among us. His Martial Soul has no offensive power at all, but among Food-type Martial Souls, it's a top-quality one. After all, he provides meat. The only problem is, when he summons his Martial Soul, the incantations he chants are simply too disgusting. Anyone who knows him would never willingly eat the sausages he produces. Maybe because of his Food-type Martial Soul, his body hair grows much thicker than normal — if he doesn't shave for a day, he becomes like this. So, he has a nickname in the academy: Uncle Big Sausage. But he prefers to call himself Sausage Monopoly."

Dai Mubai patted Tang San's shoulder and said, "Come on, I'll take you two through the exam. You don't have to line up."

Tang San said, "Isn't that inappropriate?"

Dai Mubai replied, "Don't worry, it's not favoritism. This is the treatment you deserve."As he spoke, he led them toward the front of the queue.

The teacher in charge of the second round of testing was also an older instructor. Because Tang San had gone off earlier to buy sausages, he hadn't had the chance to see what this round of testing entailed.

Dai Mubai approached the teacher and whispered a few words in his ear, then pointed toward the few people behind him.

The teacher nodded and said, "Alright, take them directly to the fourth test. If they pass, they'll be admitted."

Dai Mubai returned to Tang San and Xiao Wu's side, ready to lead them further inside the academy. But the other examinees lining up were not happy.

A male examinee shouted, "Teacher, what's going on? Why do they get to skip straight to the fourth test, while we have to pass every round one by one?"

The older teacher said indifferently, "If your soul power level is also above twenty-five, then you can go directly to the fourth test as well. No need to waste time here. But your tested soul power is only twenty-one, so you have to pass each stage."

The male examinee questioned, "Their soul power is above twenty-five? Impossible! We're only twelve years old — how could anyone have such high soul power?"

Everyone present had soul power above level twenty-one and was under thirteen years old. In their original elementary academies, they were all stars — adored by teachers and peers alike. But here at Shrek Academy, they kept hitting obstacles. Naturally, their moods began to shift.

Dai Mubai snorted coldly. "Just because you can't do it doesn't mean others can't. When I entered the academy, my soul power was already twenty-five. Tang San, show them your soul power."As he spoke, he picked up a white crystal ball from the table and tossed it to Tang San.

Testing crystals came in different colors depending on their level range. This white crystal was used for measuring soul power below level thirty — if the soul power exceeded thirty, the crystal would shatter.

Tang San now understood why Dai Mubai said this was the treatment they deserved. Clearly, this test was meant to measure each candidate's precise soul power.

Without saying anything, Tang San accepted the white crystal and injected his Xuan Tian Gong inner power into it.

In an instant, the crystal in his hand shone brightly. The white crystal became as brilliant as a diamond, intense light filling every corner — clearly the sign of approaching level thirty.

The testing teacher showed a faintly amused smile. "Looks like our Shrek Academy will be welcoming another fine little monster this year."

Tang San smiled and handed the crystal to Xiao Wu. He didn't want anyone to speak ill of her, and he had absolute confidence in her strength.

Once again, the same white light flared. All other candidates instantly fell silent, their doubts sealed by the proof before their eyes. Their gazes toward Tang San and Xiao Wu became filled with disbelief.

Level twenty-nine.At just twelve years old, reaching level twenty-nine soul power — was that even possible for a human?

Because the crystal ball could only measure levels below thirty, everyone ignored Ning Rongrong and Qian Renyue, and the two of them naturally didn't bother to explain.

But the male candidate persisted, pointing at Qian Renyue and Ning Rongrong. "Then what about those two? Why don't they have to take the test?"

Dai Mubai looked at the troublemaker speechlessly — those two were people even he didn't dare offend. Especially Qian Renyue — she was two or three years younger than him, yet already a Soul Sect!

Qian Renyue immediately released her Martial Soul. Two yellow and two purple — four soul rings glimmered around her body, stunning everyone present except for the few who already knew.

The male candidate who had been questioning them instantly shut his mouth, covering it with his hands, wishing he could disappear.

Qian Renyue cast him a cold glance. "Do you have any more questions?"

The male candidate shook his head rapidly and turned to run away, not daring to question Ning Rongrong, who hadn't even released her Martial Soul yet.

While everyone was still in shock at Qian Renyue's soul power level, a black figure suddenly flashed by. Xiao Wu noticed that the crystal ball in her hand had vanished. The black figure stood beside her — holding the very same crystal ball she'd just been holding.

The light from the crystal was slightly weaker than Tang San and Xiao Wu's, showing a soul power level of twenty-seven.

The black figure was none other than the cold girl who had followed Dai Mubai into the academy last.

The testing teacher's face revealed an expression of barely restrained astonishment. "There are monsters every year, but this year there are so many. Five at once! Excellent, excellent — looks like I might be getting a raise. Mubai, take these four straight to the fourth test."

"Yes." Dai Mubai replied respectfully, his Evil Eyes showing a trace of complexity as he glanced at the cold girl before turning to lead the group deeper into the academy. This time, no other candidate raised an objection — strength had already proven everything.

Among the five examinees, Tang San's relationship with Dai Mubai was the best. As they followed him inward, Tang San asked, "Boss Dai, are there only four stages in the entrance exam?"

Dai Mubai nodded. "Yes, there are four in total. The first one you've already passed — it's to eliminate those with soul power below level twenty-one or older than thirteen. That round filters out the most people. The second round tests soul power and Martial Soul identification. Having high soul power alone doesn't guarantee future potential. This round mainly assesses whether your Martial Soul has development potential, and whether your previous cultivation path was correct. Of course, if a Martial Soul is particularly unique or unusual, it can also qualify — that's how Little Ao got in back then."

Tang San easily understood Dai Mubai's words. After all, his teacher, the Grandmaster, had deeply instilled these concepts in him. Even with the same Martial Soul, different development paths lead to completely different achievements. This second test was meant to evaluate the Martial Soul's inherent strength and whether the first two soul rings conflicted in a way that might hinder future cultivation.

"Brother Dai," Tang San asked, "but my Martial Soul is Blue Silver Grass — shouldn't that be considered one of the least promising Martial Souls? Why…"

Dai Mubai laughed heartily. "You don't need to be modest. Don't I already know your strength? The academy has a rule — if an applicant's soul power exceeds level twenty-five, regardless of what their Martial Soul is, they automatically pass both the second and third rounds. It's like overwhelming power defeating skill — even if your Martial Soul is of lower quality, with soul power far beyond your peers, you can still become a powerful Soul Master."

Xiao Wu couldn't help but ask, "What about the third test?"

Dai Mubai replied, "The third test examines how well a candidate can apply their Martial Soul. Having soul power and potential isn't enough — you must also have control over your own Martial Soul. The higher-level the Martial Soul, the harder it is to control, and the easier it is to encounter problems. If a candidate can't control their Martial Soul to a certain standard, it proves they haven't trained diligently enough. Such students are not accepted here."

Qian Renyue thought this academy, despite lacking other strengths, did have a good system for selecting outstanding students. The Spirit Hall Academy could learn from this — using such strict screening could help identify true prodigies and focus resources on nurturing elite talents.

Before Xiao Wu could ask further, Dai Mubai continued to explain the fourth test. "The fourth test examines actual combat experience. Some candidates may have good Martial Souls and decent control, but they've grown up in noble families, pampered since birth, with no understanding of the outside world — let alone combat. Such students aren't accepted either. The dean said before: anyone spoiled or delicate — we don't take them."
