Chapter 4 - Camp 1

"Hello, everyone. For this entire summer camp, we will be in the same group together. Why don't we introduce ourselves first? I am Kido Joe, 6th grade of Odaiba Elementary School. I am appointed as team leader of this group, nice too meet you all." Kido Joe waved a little.

There are eight of them sitting around in a circle on a wide field on the foot of mountain. They were just appointed as a group, and they were given some camping necessities and emergency bag before ushered to a wide field, told that they have free time to settle before they have to gather for lunch. Joe, like most other group, decided to gather his group first to familiarize themselves with each other.

A boy who was next to Joe, with googles on his head, was nudged by Joe to continue the introduction.

"Yo, Yagami Taichi, 5th grade." He said casually.

"Izumi Koushirou, 4th grade of the same school. Nice to meet you all." A boy with a laptop strapped on his back nodded from beside Taichi.

"I'm Ishida Yamato, same as Taichi." A boy with spiky blond hair said next.

"I am Takaishi Takeru, 2nd grade. Hello, nice to meet you!" a small child with a green hat and blond hair said next with a wave and bright smile.

"Hello, I'm Takenouchi Sora, 5th grade also from Odaiba Elementary School." A girl with short orange hair and blue beanie introduced herself next.

"I'm Tachikawa Mimi, same school 4th grade, nice to meet you!" a girl with light brown hair wearing a large pink cowgirl hat said cheerfully.

When it was Airi's turn, she did it nervously. "I'm Shirogane Airi, twelve years old. Everyone, nice to meet you all." She waved a little awkwardly.

"Thank you, now we can start to assign responsibility and we need to make schedule to take turns of carrying the emergency bag—" Joe began.

"Aww, come on! It's free time, we must go to play! Why don't we go to the forest first, then talk about boring things after eating? It's a nice day!" Taichi exclaimed.

"B-but!" Joe stammered, not anticipating Taichi's interruption. To his horror, Yamato agreed with Taichi.

"I think it's not too urgent at the moment. Why don't we go out and explore first?"

"Yes, I want to go to an adventure!" Takeru chimed in.

"Me too! I want to pick flowers! I saw so many on our way here!" Mimi piped up while starting to stand up.

"Wait a minute! The teacher says we must go everywhere together as a group, don't go around by yourself!"

"Then let's go together. Joe-senpai, you can make a list first when they are playing, I'll help you." Koushirou also stood, and followed by the rest of them. Sora, wearing a sheepish smile, cajoled Joe and took his hand to pull him up.

"Let's go, Joe-senpai. I'll also help you."

Facing the eager group ready to just bolt away, Joe was resigned.

"Fine…" he said weakly. The rest of them cheered.

"Sora-san, Airi-san! Let's pick flower together that way!"

Airi who was walking at the back of the group silently, was cued. She was startled when hearing Mimi's invitation, but also secretly a bit happy to be included. She nodded shyly. Sora, who was probably already familiar with Mimi's antics, just nodded indulgently.

"Alright, let's go, Mimi-chan, Airi-san."

"Don't wander too far!" Joe shouted from behind them. Sora shouted back, "Yes~" while patting Mimi's back who grumbled about troublesome boys.

"Look, so many wildflowers. So beautiful!" Mimi exclaimed excitedly. Airi and Sora couldn't not agree with her.

A widespread field of colors, all kinds of flower with bright colored petals swaying slightly from the summer wind. Truly a breathtaking sight to behold.

"I want to make a wreath, it must be so beautiful." Mimi said after taking the sight for a while.

"I think it's great, but remember, just pick what you want to use, don't pick them all, okay, Mimi-chan?" Sora reminded her.

"En, I know!" Mimi said while crouching down to the flowers, pondering which one to pick.

"Airi-san, let's pick some too. Can you make a wreath?" Sora asked Airi.

With a bit of shame, Airi shook her head. "I've never made a wreath before." She said quietly, afraid that it would make her new friends reject her.

"That's okay, I'll teach you how. Let's pick some flower first." Sora said kindly. Airi nodded at her with a smile, thankful.

"This one, I think it will look good with your sundress, Airi-san!" Mimi suddenly thrusted a flower in her face, startling Airi. After a moment, Airi smiled at Mimi, taking the flower. "Thank you, Sora-san, Mimi-san."

"What's to thank about? Also, don't call me Mimi-san, just call me Mimi!"

"Right, me too, just call me Sora."

"All right then, you can call me Airi." she smiled.

"I've been meaning to ask this, but what grade are you in? You just mentioned your age in your introduction. Are you in 6th grade?" Mimi wondered.

"Um, I'm homeschooled, but I have learned up to 6th grade subject. I will be entering junior high school next year." Airi said nervously.

"Whoa, amazing! I've never heard of someone who was homeschooled before, what is it like?" Mimi asked eagerly.

"Well, of course, Mimi-chan. Your friends are all in same school." Sora rolled her eyes with a smile. Mimi just smiled cheekily at her with a small 'he he he'.

"Well, the curriculum is the same, Yamamoto-sensei, my teacher will come to my house on weekday to teach and give me worksheets." Airi paused, then added "I still have homework too."

"What?! What's the point of studying at home if you also got ANOTHER work to do at home?" Mimi asked indignantly. Sora just giggled at Mimi's angry face. Airi smiled too.

"Did you get to visit a lot of place? Last year my class went to a very biiig orchard and we had a picnic there!" Mimi shared excitedly. Sora nodded and chimed in "My class went to a ship museum last year."

"Eh, it's so boring!" Mimi said. Sora look at her, unimpressed. "Next year you'll also go to a museum, Mimi-chan."

"Noo!" Airi giggled softly hearing Mimi's whine.

"What about you, Airi?" Sora asked her.

Airi fidgeted, "Well, I got sick pretty often in my childhood, so I don't have many chances to go out." She confessed. In a smaller voice, she also added "in fact, this summer camp is my first outing I've experienced without my family."

Sora's smile faltered, and Mimi also looked at her intently. Suddenly, Mimi put both of her hand on Airi's shoulder firmly, "Don't worry, Airi, we will make this summer camp the best adventure you'll ever had. You heard that? THE BEST! Most importantly, because you got to spend it with the prettiest and most amazing girl Mimi-sama, which is, me!" Mimi declared confidently while puffing out her chest.

After a moment of silence, Sora giggled at Mimi's action, yet she agreed. "Yes! Airi, Mimi-chan, here to best summer camp ever!" She held her hand out, followed by Mimi. They looked at Airi expectantly.

Airi, with a bright smile on her lips, held out her hand too.

"En!"
