My rapid-fire questions caught Kevin completely off guard. The man wasn't an idiot—you don't keep a CEO position that long without some brains. But somehow, he'd never bothered to think these things through before.
I watched as understanding flickered across his face, like someone had just flipped a switch in his head.
But before he could fully process what I'd said, something shifted in his expression. His eyes went cold again, and that familiar stubborn anger returned.
"Jill has always been the most reasonable one," he snapped. "She only went to the hospital to check on Kane so I wouldn't have to stress about it.
"She didn't call the cops—she came straight back and told me everything. She did it to protect you.
"Otherwise, you'd be sitting in a jail cell right now, splashed across every headline.
"The evidence is staring you in the face, and you're still making excuses, even trying to drag Jill through the mud.
"You've completely let me down."
