Chapter 29 - Chapter 29: Genius

Rustle, rustle.

Inside the examination room, the only sound was the frantic scratching of pens.

The examiner, Matsumoto, looked at the six candidates before him, his gaze finally resting on the youngest one.

He had just received news.

This student, who had suddenly joined the exam at the last minute, was named Kawaki, a child who had just turned ten not long ago.

Normally, this wouldn't be an issue, but the problem was, this was the assessment site for a Junior Breeder!

He heard that Kawaki had even used connections to get in…

Matsumoto thought even less of him.

Perhaps he was just overconfident and came to experience the Breeder assessment?

Kawaki, however, didn't pay much attention to what others thought.

He quietly lowered his head and answered the questions; the questions on this test paper were all very simple, mostly testing the candidate's grasp of basic Pokémon knowledge.

Things like Pokémon abilities, preferences, ecological environments, and so on.

He finished answering all of them in just half an hour and submitted his test paper to the examiner.

Junsha Chun was waiting outside, and seeing Kawaki emerge, she immediately asked, "How was it?"

"I've finished answering," Kawaki replied.

The written test would take some time to produce results, so while waiting, the two casually toured the Pokémon Association's ecological garden.

Here, Kawaki saw many Fire-type Pokémon.

Torchic, Numel, Slugma, Torkoal, Vulpix…

Junsha Chun looked at the scene and introduced, "The environment here simulates the volcanic area inside Mt. Chimney, which is very suitable for Fire-type Pokémon to live in."

Before them was a reddish-brown land, with white hot steam constantly rising from the cracks in the earth, and not far away, there was even a bubbling pool of magma.

Slugma were active all around.

And on a display board nearby, the principle of this magma zone ecological area was explained to visiting Breeders.

It utilized several valuable Fire Stones placed in specific machines, which would activate the Fire-type energy within the stones, thereby raising the temperature of the surrounding area and perfectly simulating a volcanic ecological zone.

Kawaki was thoughtful; he could refer to this place later and create a special area suitable for Fire-type Pokémon in his backyard.

Junsha Chun looked at Kawaki, her expression a mix of wanting to speak and holding back.

She thought for a moment and finally decided to speak, "Don't worry, it doesn't matter even if you don't pass this assessment. Occasionally, wild Pokémon eggs are found near Fallarbor Town, and I'll find a way to collect them and give them to you to take care of."

Although he didn't have a certificate, she had some understanding of Kawaki's breeding abilities.

The little Growlithe was growing robustly under his care, and the Breeding House was also well-managed by him.

Hearing this, Kawaki couldn't help but feel a little touched.

This Miss Jenny was truly very good to him!

As far as he knew, every Jenny of the Jenny Family was a person with a very strong sense of responsibility.

Perhaps she truly saw herself as an older sister?

Kawaki still couldn't bring himself to call a stranger 'older sister' for the time being. He shook his head and said with a smile, "The results aren't out yet."

*

Pokémon Breeder Association, inside the office.

A group of staff members were grading the test papers of the six candidates who participated in the Junior Breeder assessment.

The old man who had been speaking with Junsha Chun happened to pass by. He looked at Matsumoto, and although he already had an answer in his heart, he couldn't help but ask at this moment.

"How did that young man named Kawaki do? Did he not pass?"

After asking, the old man noticed something.

Matsumoto's usually rigid face was now filled with astonishment.

It seemed as if he had seen something shocking.

Matsumoto flipped through the test paper in his hand in disbelief and replied, "Mr. Aiji, did that Kawaki you mentioned earlier really just turn ten, never attended school, and has no breeding experience?"

Aiji: "?"

Seeing Aiji full of question marks, Matsumoto directly handed over the paper.

Aiji reached out and took it, clearly seeing the words "Full Score" on it.

Aiji: "!!!"

"That Kawaki is also the only candidate in this Breeder assessment who got a full score!" Matsumoto was very surprised: "It's incredible! You know, some of the content in this paper is knowledge that only Intermediate Breeders can master!"

And now, Kawaki not only answered them but answered them perfectly!

"Huh? Mr. Aiji, what's wrong?" Kawaki suddenly noticed that Mr. Aiji had stopped speaking.

Aiji: "…" From now on, call me Aiji!

But he didn't say that out loud. Looking at the test paper, Aiji was silent for a moment, then spoke: "For the second round, I will personally conduct the test!"

"What?"

Matsumoto was a little surprised. Mr. Aiji was the only Senior Breeder in Fallarbor Town, a capable person who could rejuvenate Pokémon.

Aiji, however, didn't speak. He thought of the confident look on that kid named Kawaki's face when he spoke earlier.

No wonder… No wonder he was so sure, it turns out he really had some skills.

This time, he had misjudged him.

Since that was the case, he would see what this kid was capable of!

Ten years old, a full score on the Junior Breeder assessment. If he could also get a full score on the upcoming interview, then it would mean this kid was a rare genius in breeding!

Having made up his mind, Aiji immediately rushed to the interview site.

*

The second part of the Junior Breeder assessment was an interview, requiring candidates to observe a Pokémon's physical characteristics, then analyze its situation and illness to the examiner, and then find the corresponding berries and herbs from a pile of them, prepare them into a medicine or juice, and treat the Pokémon.

The six candidates entered a room, where six different Pokémon stood, and behind them was a large pile of berries and herbs, as well as preparation tools.

Old Man Aiji stood at the front, his gaze lingering on Kawaki for a moment, then he said with a smile:

"Candidates, what will be tested next is an essential ability for a Breeder: eyesight, also known as observation skills!"

"In our daily lives, we encounter various Pokémon. We need to possess good observation skills to determine their condition, and then, based on the situation, prescribe the right medicine or conduct targeted breeding."

"Therefore, the goal of today's test is your observation skills!"

"So, have you all seen them? There is a Pokémon standing in front of each of you. They have suffered injuries of varying degrees. Next, you have ten minutes to observe the symptoms, then report to me, and then find the healing herbs to provide them with treatment."

Kawaki's gaze swept over the six Pokémon in front of him.

They were: Lotad, Shroomish, Skitty, Mawile, Snorunt, and Beautifly.

And the one assigned to him was a Mawile that looked very quiet and cute.
