Chapter 9 - Diving In

Blood spurt out of the neck, pooling around the ground underneath him.

Veritas was quite lucky, it was already exhausted from the fight against the bear so he had it easier.

The information he obtained from killing the wolf poured into him, and he felt stronger than before.

Veritas could feel it, his Core humming as he absorbed more information and power.

But Veritas wasn't given the chance to celebrate it as the bear was already onto him.

Rocks shot towards him like a bullet, Veritas wasn't responsive enough and some of the rocks stabbed into him as Veritas grunt even as he rolled away.

Information was still flooding him slightly as he felt stronger, but his body was lagging.

The bear saw that its enemy was down and quickly jumped towards Veritas, jagged rocks shot towards him from the ground, and rocks around the jumping bear was hovering around it.

The bear crashed down like a wrecking ball, but Veritas got away, he "carried" himself away, as if picking himself up out of the spot where he was.

A loud explosion rang out, dust picked up before it slowly died down.

The bear didn't feel what it was supposed to feel, it quickly looked around before seeing Veritas kneeling on the ground, panting.

The telekinetic powers were incomplete, he still didn't know exactly how to use it aside from a few basic things.

Hopefully it was enough.

Veritas looked at the bear, watching as it roared. Nothing happened... until he felt the tremor from underneath.

Sensing that something was wrong, Veritas quickly blurred away with wind and telekinesis.

'Too fast!'

Veritas thought to himself as the world blurred, and he stopped himself and saw that he had moved several meters away.

Veritas looked back and saw that the bear was already upon him, it too, was fast and relentless.

Veritas dodged two rock covered arms that slammed the earth before coating wind around his hand and sending it blasting towards the bear's ribs.

Unlucky for him, it merely destroyed the rock armor and didn't reach the bear's ribs.

Veritas blurred yet again, moving away from the spot where he was and reappearing a few meters away from the position.

Veritas watched as the bear stumbled on its steps, its eyes glimmered as they stared at him.

Veritas huffed, he was less tired due to the wind and telekinesis helping him move faster without spending a lot of stamina.

But still...

The bear was surprisingly resourceful, it could conjure rocks and armors that were powerful almost endlessly.

Though... it seem that there was a drawback to it.

When Veritas delivered that blow, Veritas could see it, the skin on the bear's body, it was slowly changing to something.

Was it slowly getting petrified?

Ironic.

The gears inside his head started to work, he could slowly end the bear by forcing it to use more of its power.

But...

He felt that it wasn't enough.

No, no it wasn't.

He could feel himself better in mastering the way to use wind, but telekinesis? He figured it would take longer to get used to it.

This... was the perfect opportunity.

He could try killing it with telekinesis.

What was needed to use telekinesis anyway? Was it the mental power? Or something else...

Veritas kind of regretted not learning more about the energy it took to use the Paths and Lines.

He was merely using the wind and telekinesis... by imagining it.

Veritas moved, shaking those thoughts away, he looked at the direction of a tree and imagined the tree flying up.

Suddenly a stinging pain chilled his brain, and the tree, while it was slightly moved, suddenly fell.

His concentration broke, and it costed him a rock covered punch coming down in front of his torso.

Veritas put up his guard, wind gathering in front of him.

BOOM

The wind dispersed from the force of the punch, Veritas flew away like a ragdoll, crashing down hard.

Veritas coughed, his arms felt like a mush, spurts of blood squirted out of his arms.

His chest hurt, and he needed to take wheezes of breath like an asthmatic boy.

Shards of rocks were impaled in his arms, digging into them.

'Fuck...'

Veritas slowly rose, bringing himself up with the help of telekinesis and the wind.

It was easy to use telekinesis on himself, but on things away from him and something heavy? It was evident how hard it was...

He simply imagined the tree flying, and... it wasn't enough.

Amidst the raging sound of the battlefield, the whispers mocked him, relentlessly annoying him as Veritas could hear them even stronger.

Veritas looked to the front and saw the ground in front of him shaking and protruding up as if something underneath the ground was pushing them up.

Veritas quickly dodged to the side, his arms moving weakly and limp along with him.

He did successfully dodge the rocks that protrude out of the ground, but then...

A punch was onto him, a reminiscent of the way the wolf fought.

Veritas growled, wind already coalescing around him and mostly on his feet.

Then, he pushed himself away, and blurred with the wind as he appeared somewhere else.

The bear looked around and saw Veritas, bloodied up, with a corpse next to him.

Veritas pant, staring at the wolf as he touched it.

Veritss couldn't grasp exactly how to use telekinesis, even if he was given the information, it was still too vague.

'I'll use the authority, but use it short and fast.'

He realized some things throughout his journey after clearing up his mind.

There might be a chance for him to use 'Authority of #####' if he used it only for a short while and not get the attention of the Agent's.

It was... dumb, and risky.

But his attacks were weak, and while he definitely could stall for time and let the bear attack him and exhaust itself, Veritas was sure it could just decide to run.

That...? That was not enough.

Veritas could feel it, the intoxicating sensation of battle, the thrill he felt when he was cornered by two Corrupted...

He wanted more of that experience, he wanted to learn more about the way they fought.

Not just by a simple absorption from killing it, no, that wasn't enough.

He wanted to learn from the fight.

So... with closed eyes, Veritas used it.

Red lines erupt from him, spreading from his body down towards the corpse and the ground.

The bear stopped on its tracks, its eyes widened as it looked at Veritas with shock.

It staggered back, the red lines were far, yet...

Those red lines made it step back, the red made it staggered back and growl in distress.

It roared weakly at the sight of Veritas.

It was in the face of an "Agent".

Veritas opened himself, pouring out everything he knew down to the corpse of the wolf through the red lines.

Then, the scenery changed, the darkness "blurred" as if warping and Veritas dissipated.
